Man, 61, is charged with homicide as physique of lacking girl is discovered 10 days after she disappeared

A man has been charged with murder after the harrowing discovery of the body of a woman who had been missing for 10 days.

Mariann Borocz had been last seen on December 14 when she was spotted along Chorley Old Road in Bolton.

However, Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed the discovery of her body at a property in the Bolton area on December 23.

Greater Manchester Police have since arrested 61-year-old Christopher Barlow, who has been charged with Ms Borocz’s murder.

Barlow was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Manchester and Saldord Magistrates’ Court today.

Ms Borocz’s family have been informed of her formal identification and are being supported by police family liason officers. 

Detective Chief Inspector and Senior Investigating Officer Tony Platten from Greater Machester Police’s Major Incident Team said; ‘On behalf of the entire investigation team, our condolences remain with Mariann’s family as they try to come to terms with her death.

‘Our investigation is moving at pace, and we are continuing to work hard to build a full timeline of events leading up to Mariann’s death.

‘As part of our investigation, we are once again appealing for additional information from the local community. You can speak to our officers in person or call 101 quoting incident 1670 of 23/12/2024.

‘I’d also like to thank those who have spoken to us already and helped initially in sharing our appeals around Bolton.’
