Mohamed Salah has once again taken to social media to share a heartwarming photo of him celebrating Christmas with his family in a post that predictably sparked a flurry of reactions.

As a devout Muslim, the Liverpool superstar and goal machine‘s annual tradition of sharing a festive picture with his wife and two daughters – this year again in matching pyjamas – often attracts criticism from some quarters. However, the Premier League’s top goalscorer views the act as a demonstration of respect and has never let negativity affect his decision.Salah and his wife Magi have raised their daughters Makka, 10, and Kayan, 4, in a predominantly Christian country. As the girls have become accustomed to the Christmas festivities, Salah wants to ensure they enjoy it while learning about other religions.Salah’s Christmas Day post depicted the family gathered around a Christmas tree with a giant gingerbread man, all looking like they were having a great time together. The post was liked by several current and former Liverpool stars including Jordan Henderson, Dejan Lovren, Fabinho, Kostas Tsimikas, Harvey Elliott, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.

However, both Instagram and Twitter/X posts’ comments sections were swiftly inundated with a mix of positive and negative responses. A theory also emerged suggesting that both Liverpool – currently leading the Premier League and Champions League tables – and Salah seem to experience a dip in form shortly after the Egyptian shares his annual message, reports the Mirror.

One wishful Arsenal supporter posted on X: “Liverpool downfall incoming” and a Manchester City fan poking fun at his own team’s current misfortune chimed in with: “He’s done it again! The title race is on!”However, there’s no evidence to support such wild claims. Salah shared a festive photo with his loved ones on Christmas Day 2019, before later that season Liverpool clinched the Premier League title.

Other reactions directed at Salah included messages of disappointment, with one person posting: “At this point I am just disappointed in you”. Another questioned: “Who is forcing you to do this? “

Meanwhile, one poster defending Salah praised him, saying: “Raising his children to respect other cultures traditions and giving them special memories to remember when they’re adults, he’s an inspiration to all.”Salah’s latest seasonal message emerges amid ongoing contract discussions at Liverpool, with supporters eagerly anticipating a resolution for not only the 32-year-old leading scorer but also for skipper Virgil van Dijk and deputy Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts all expire at the end of the season.Talks have commenced with the trio, with optimism particularly surrounding potential deals for Salah and Van Dijk. Following his brace in the 6-3 victory over Tottenham prior to Christmas, Salah will return to the field when Liverpool welcome Leicester City to Anfield on Boxing Day.
