Wrexham’s superstar Paul Mullin netted a ‘Puskas worthy goal’ in the thick fog at the Racecourse on Boxing Day as the Red Dragons needed a late goal to best Blackpool
Paul Mullin has netted a strike ‘worthy of a Puskas award’ on Boxing Day in horrid conditions.
Mullin, despite being on the edge of the box, might not have been able to see the goal due to the thick fog that has descended on the UK over the past couple of hours.
The Wrexham-star-turned-Hollywood-actor picked the ball up on the edge of the box, using his knee to control it, and let fly with a stunnign volley that left Harry Alfred Tyrer stranded as it flew into the far top corner.
“He must have a foot like a traction engine,” one fan joked. While a second shared: “Paul Mullin doing something vaguely useful in League One? It’s a Christmas miracle.”
“Paul Mullin’s scored one of the best goals I’ve seen live today,” a third posted. And another added: “That must be Puskas worthy!”
Mullin had opened the scoring on Thursday, but Blackpool were bale to pull back level. Mullin’s afternoon came to an end when he was taken off in the 85th minute, but there was time for one final twist.
Wrexham were awarded a penalty after what appeared to be a controversial handball and former Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher calmly slotted home to send the Red Dragons back into the lead.
It was Mullin’s second goal of the season after he netted against Rotherham on October 19.
Phil Parkinson’s side remain third in League One, and they’re now three points behind league leaders Birmingham City. Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynolds wasn’t present for the clash – but he was in town for their game with Cambridge United on December 14.
