Mark Zuckerberg breaks his silence on Hawaii ‘Doomsday bunker’ below his $270m mansion compound

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has finally broken his silence on the ‘Doomsday bunker’ that many claim he is building underneath his $270million Hawaii mansion.

Zuckerberg, 40, has long been rumoured to have been building a 5,000-sq. ft. bunker underneath his 1,400-acre compound on the island of Kauai, one of the most northern islands in the Northern Pacific archipelago.

Asked by Bloomberg’s Emily Chang whether he had a bunker under his lush homestead, Zuckerberg said: ‘No, I think that’s just like a little shelter. It’s like a basement.

‘We have the basic house that we built, and we built an office out there because I work out there. There’s a bunch of storage space, whatever you want to call it, a hurricane shelter or whatever.

‘I think it got blown out of proportion as if the whole ranch was some kind of Doomsday bunker, which is just not true.’

According to documents obtained by Wired, the Hawaii compound, which is large enough to fit 1,060 American football fields, will be completely self-sufficient with its own food, energy and water supplies.

Plans showed that the underground bunker has a floor space of 5,000-sq. ft., and has a living space, a mechanical room and an escape hatch that can be accessed via a ladder.

There is also said to be a blastproof door made from concrete and metal.

Locals were furious that Zuckerberg had bought huge swathes of the island up for himself

Many of the contractors working on the project were made to sign NDAs, according to Wired.

And locals were furious that Zuckerberg had bought huge swathes of the island up for himself.

In 2016, Allan Parachini, a local journalist, wrote an excoriating piece that called Zuckerberg out for ‘erecting a rock wall in front of his 700-acre oceanfront property.’

Parachini urged residents to ‘tell Zuckerberg that abusing his stewardship of public beaches as if we are just another batch of Facebook victims is unacceptable.’

Zuckerberg is just one of the 1% who have reportedly started prepping for the end of the world.

Kim Kardashian, Shaquille O’Neal and Tom Cruise are said to have built bunkers or temporary safe rooms. Bill Gates apparently has bunkers under his homes.

Ron Hubbard, CEO of Texas-based Atlas Survival Shelters, told The Hollywood Reporter that his company recieved countless calls after news of Zuckerberg’s bunker was reported, causing a ‘buying frenzy.’

‘It got really busy, and it seems like the phone hasn’t stopped ringing; World War III seems like it’s coming’, he said.

Robert Vicino, founder of Del Mar, California-based Vivos, which creates underground survival shelters, added: ‘Now that Zuckerberg has let the cat out of the bag, that’s got other people who share his status or are near his status starting to think, ‘Oh God, if he’s doing that, maybe he knows something that I don’t, maybe I should seek this out myself.’

‘But it’s no secret that the one-percenters and top-ranking government officials have been in on this bunker idea for a long-ass time.

‘The pandemic was a huge driver of interest in sales; then all the global concerns and issues at home are another boost. We’re here to provide peace-of-mind solutions.’
