Ruben Amorim didn’t hold back in his criticism of Bruno Fernandes following his red card in Manchester United’s crushing defeat to Wolves.

The Red Devils suffered their third consecutive loss in all competitions as they were beaten 2-0 at Molineux on Boxing Day.

After a closely contested first half, Fernandes’ second yellow card for a foul on Nelson Semedo handed Wolves the upper hand. Matheus Cunha broke the deadlock with an inswinging corner that sailed over Andre Onana and into the far corner.

Despite making attacking substitutions in search of an equaliser, Wolves sealed the much-needed three points to escape the Premier League relegation zone when Hwang Hee-chan netted a counter-attack goal in the 98th minute.

This marks Fernandes’ third dismissal in 27 appearances across all competitions this season, and his lack of discipline proved costly.

Reflecting on a third defeat in a week, Amorim was quick to point fingers, stating the red card was a game-changer. “Of course, when you lose, when we don’t win, it’s a step back. It was really hard with the sending off,” he shared with Prime Video.

“The goal was similar against Tottenham. Then, we tried. Even with one less guy we tried to and I think we were near something but then Wolves scored the second one.

“Then, in the end, we tried everything and the transition was 2-0. For us, let’s continue. Asked about Fernandes’ red card, Amorim said,” reports the Mirror.

Amorim opened up about Fernandes’ red card, remarking: “I think he cannot go to the ball. He’s trying to reach the ball and some guys are not even looking at the ball but I don’t want to focus on that.

“I think the good thing is we were near the goal, even with 10 men. That is a good thing, but we lost.”

He further added: “It’s so tough to win games in this league with 11 men. With 10 men, it’s more difficult. We have to focus on that.”
