Noughties pop star Daniel Powter looked a far cry from his heyday as he shared an unrecognisable Instagram photo.

The singer, 53, who battled drug and alcohol addiction for five years shortly after his single hit the charts in 2005, is renowned for his one-hit wonder Bad Day.

Coming up to 20 years since Daniel released the legendary anthem, Daniel looked worlds apart from his days in the charts.

The Canadian singer is still lapping up his single on social media, which made it to number two in the UK charts, travelling around the world singing the hit.

Away from his career, Daniel is also a beloved father to his three children, two daughters and a son.

The hitmaker has been very open about beating his cocaine and alcohol habit in the past.

The song from his 2005 eponymous debut album was the most-played track in Europe that year, got adopted for a Coca-Cola ad campaign and became the bestselling digital single of all time in the US.

In 2008, Daniel explained that the song was ‘so big that it almost eclipsed me as an artist’.

Off the back of Bad Day’s success, Daniel had a two-year break to go into rehab and recharged burnt-out batteries.

He told DailyMail at the time that he had been ‘completely influenced by the consumption of drugs and alcohol‘.

Daniel also said he thought doing drugs would live up to the ‘pop star image’ at the peak of his fame.

He added: ‘I thought maybe I should sleep with hundreds of women and do drugs on the road to live up to the pop star image, when really I’m just a regular guy.

‘But I lost touch with reality and the trigger for going to rehab was that I was so paranoid and underweight, I was in danger of dying.’

During his addiction Daniel went through a messy divorce after turning to cocaine, he told Metro in 2016.

Daniel, who auditioned on Canada’s Got Talent in March earlier this year, is also a doting father to two daughters and one son

‘I became a slave to it and ended up managing my life around it’, he told the publication.

Daniel admitted his addictions had an ‘enormous’ effect on him and his career.

He said: ‘It wasn’t a problem for the first year and a half but as the years went by it got worse until I got to a point where I couldn’t remember what was happening. It was a bad place and I decided to change my life.

‘Getting sober is a big step. It’s hard. You develop relationships based on you being f***** up and those people aren’t the best to be around when you get sober.

‘It’s tough because you have to change yourself and your relationships and get the bad people out of your life. It takes a long time. Now I get to play music again and be happy.’

After overcoming his past demons, the legendary star continues to plug his hit song around the world and even appeared on Canadian’s Got Talent in October.

The singer shocked the judges when he appeared on stage as a regular contestant but then started belting out his classic.
