Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland had a blunt message following their much-needed victory over Leicester City, admitting “s*** happens” as Pep Guardiola‘s side finally won in the Premier League again.

The reigning Premier League champions bounced back on Sunday by beating the Foxes 2-0 at the King Power Stadium thanks to goals from Savinho and Haaland. The Brazilian scored up his maiden goal for City following a rebound, before Haaland sealed the deal with an emphatic header in the second half.

City’s last win in the Premier League came back at the start of December when they beat Nottingham Forest 3-0. And following the victory over Leicester, Haaland offered up a frank statement to Sky Sports, swearing on live TV.

“I think it’s important to look ahead and s*** happens,” said Haaland. “That’s something. Things happen and we have to keep going, we have to stay positive and focus on the right things.”

Hot on the heels of his goal celebration, Haaland showed his lighter side by nudging gaffer Pep Guardiola in the direction of the adoring away supporters as they cheered wildly in the East Midlands, reports the Mirror.

When pressed on whether scoring again was a weight off his shoulders having bagged just two in the last eight league outings, the striker added: “Yeah, it’s always a relief to score and that was an important goal to go 2-0 up.”

He added: “Leicester did a really good game and they’ve been playing really well under the new coach so we knew it was going to be difficult. Every game is difficult and it’s about getting the game towards your, I don’t know the word in English only in Norwegian so you can translate, favour [meaning favour]. Yeah, that’s what you need to do.”

When questioned whether the result could boost team morale, Haaland confirmed: “Yeah of course. And it’s been a difficult time as I said. Now it’s New Year so don’t think too much about football because it’s actually five or six days until the next game, maybe seven. I think it’s the longest time in a pretty long period and now we can rest a little bit and go again on the fourth.”

The win was a significant turnaround for City, who hadn’t secured an away victory in any competition since October. The triumph over Leicester also marked their first away clean sheet in the Premier League since their 2-0 victory over Chelsea back in August.

This leaves City sitting fifth in the league standings, trailing four points behind Chelsea, who are set to face Ipswich at Portman Road on Monday evening. Meanwhile, City will prepare to clash with West Ham in just under a week.
