Great British pub crawl couple horrified as mouldy bogs have ‘dog-looking’ mushrooms

EXCLUSIVE: Dale Harvey, 37, and fiancée Holly Booth, 32, discovered the mushrooms in one’s pub bathroom as part of their journey rating licensed establishments up and down the UK

A couple who rate pubs up and down the country have discovered one establishment growing ‘dog-looking’ mushrooms in one pub’s bathroom.

Dale Harvey, 37, and fiancée Holly Booth, 32, launched the Great British Pub Crawl back in 2022. Since then they have visited an average of more than three boozers a day and darkened the doors of some 1,322 watering holes last year.

The pair visited an undisclosed pub in Stockport. On Facebook, Dale posted: “Possibly the first time I’ve entered a pub toilets and found ACTUAL mushrooms growing on the wall…

“I am actually a little speechless…”

The ‘dog-looking’ mushrooms

Dale, a former pub owner, previously told us the pair started the adventure in their home county of Nottinghamshire after reading about the five best pubs in the area and wanting to see whether they measured up. There they visited a whopping 900 bars and managed to sink just shy of 1,000 pints between them before taking their mission further afield.

When asked by the Daily Star where the pub was located, he said: “All I’ll tell you is that it was a pub in Stockport – the reason I didn’t ‘name and shame’ them on the post was so as not to get them a load of hate etc so I’m not gonna drop them in it now…

“It’s pretty gross though and definitely the first time we’ve come across something that bad. Luckily they aren’t a ‘food pub’ so at least that is one small mercy… but having run pubs myself for over 20 years, I can’t for the life of me even begin to understand how you could allow that to happen and not take action?

“To grow to that level, that’s a minimum of months and months of mould without anyone even once tending to it… madness…”

On the pair’s Great British Pub Crawl Facebook page, one user said: “Is there mushroom in the toilets? Yeah loads of space mate.”

Another said: “The long demolished flat roof pub I went to as a teenager had a small tree growing out of the urinal. Someone put tinsel on it at Christmas.”

And another user commented: “I can see a dog!”

The pair document their every tipple on their Facebook and YouTube pages, where they have amassed some 18,000 followers. Dale added that while he and Holly both enjoy a drink or two, the aim is not to “go on the lash” but to explore the nation and as many of its pubs as possible.

They’ve already spent £22k on drinks and visited 2,192 pubs since they started their journey last year. The Nottingham couple have even managed to visit up to 27 pubs in a day.

Dale shared: “We love travelling around the country and meeting so many great people. We have been to parts of the country we never even heard of.”

Holly, who works for the council, previously told the Daily Star her favourite pub is The Holy Bush Inn in Makeney.

Dale’s favourite pubs include Dog and Parrot, Eastwood, Nottingham, Brew, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, and Paten & Co, Stanford, Lincolnshire
