Liverpool’s Egyptian King Mohamed Salah is one of 82 Premier League stars whose contract expires next summer, with the group free to talk to clubs abroad from January 1, 2023
Liverpool’s star player, Mohamed Salah, is among the 82 Premier League players whose contracts are set to expire next summer. According to the famous Bosman rule, these players can join another club on a free transfer once their contracts end on June 30, 2025.
Starting from Wednesday, January 1, these 82 players will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs. As per the rules, they can sign a pre-contract agreement to secure their future before the season ends.
However, this six-month rule only applies to foreign clubs. Premier League clubs cannot approach other top-flight players until they enter the final month of their contract.
This is a growing concern for Liverpool, not just with Salah but also with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three Anfield stars are nearing the last six months of their contracts, sparking speculation about their futures across Merseyside and Europe.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan face similar decisions following the four-time champions’ recent slump. Meanwhile, rivals Manchester United have six players due to be out of contract, including breakout star Amad, Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton, reports the Mirror.
In the capital, Arsenal are mulling over the futures of midfield pair Thomas Partey and Jorginho, both key players under Mikel Arteta’s reign. Meanwhile, at Tottenham, skipper Son Heung-min is among those who could walk away for nothing unless Spurs opt to cash in this January.
Chelsea seem to be least affected by contract issues, with only backup keeper Lucas Bergstrom nearing the end of his term.
On the flip side, Everton and Newcastle top the list with eight senior players each set to be out of contract come June. Chris Wood, who has propelled Nottingham Forest to second place with 11 goals, may have caught the eye of foreign clubs, as might defender Ola Aina.
The Premier League could also bid farewell to soon-to-be 39 year old icon James Milner, who needs just 17 more league appearances for Brighton to surpass Gareth Barry’s record of 653 games. Here’s the full list of Premier League players whose contracts are up.
