Stephen Bunting has dumped Peter Wright out of the Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship in one the most convincing quarter-final clashes the Ally Pally has ever seen
Ally Pally was going Bunting mental as the man himself took them walking though a winter wonderland.
Stephen Bunting spent the majority of his Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship clash with Peter Wright in a different postcode. The Bullet was firing and Snakebite could barely muster a hiss.
Bunting raced into a 4-0 lead as fans were ready to declare it as one of the most convincing quarter-finals clashes the famous venue had ever seen. However, Wright, who looked out on his feet, dug deep – winning the next two sets on the bounce.
There were whispers Wright could be about to shock the world one more time this winter – having already claimed the scalp of former World Champion Luke Humphries.
It was nervy finish for Bunting, who missed three match darts at tops, before a fourth at D10 where he was finally able to check out and book his stop in the semi-finals – where he will face the winner of Luke Littler and Nathan Aspinall.
“Let’s go Bunting Mental. Cracking performance from Stephen Bunting in the QF of the darts despite Wright getting the comeback on the last few legs,” one fan posted. While a second said: “I think Stephen Bunting might just be the most likeable bloke of all time!”
“If Stephen Bunting doesn’t make the Premier League cut then there’s something wrong,” a third posted. And another added: “That was quality from Stephen Bunting best game he’s played all year Premier League surely now.”
Bunting averaged 95.55 for the match, and he was almost in tears on the stage as he spoke to Sky Sports after the win.
