Luke Littler booked his place in a second consecutive PDC World Darts Championship final by beating Stephen Bunting at the Alexandra Palace 6-1.
The teen sensation will play Dutch darts titan Michael van Gerwen after overcoming Chris Dobey six sets to one to reach the final of the tournament at Ally Pally. van Gerwen’s victory featured a monsterous check out on 158 as he eased passed his competitor.
But van Gerwen forced a TV presenter to apologise on his behalf after dropping the f-bomb live on air following his World Darts Championship semi-final victory.
In Littler’s march to the final he had eased into a strong early lead but Bunting rallied, claiming the fifth set, before Litter clinched the six with a phenomenal bullsey in a 12-darter.
Littler had looked comfortable for much of the contest, an air of calm around him throughout. During the sixth, commentators had gushed about the ‘inevitability’ of Littler, and as his position gained strength, his victory was described as “inevitable”. Bunting’s character was praised, but commentrary noted that “deep down, he knows he’s left himself too much to do”.
Littler produced a monsterous 170 finish in the third leg of the sixth set that put him within a whisker of the final, a position he then capitalised on.
