Tom Holland has revealed the ‘eye-opening’ moment that led him to go sober and recalled how his family realised he had a problem with alcohol.
In a candid new interview the actor, 28, spoke about launching his new alcohol free beer and the journey that led him to giving up.
He said one turning point for him giving up alcohol was when his older brother noticed that the drinking had started to become a problem.
He recalled an incident when he drove to see his brother for a poker night and wasn’t going to drink but then half way through the night asked his sibling if he would take him home instead as he wanted to drink.
Tom told how his brother was surprised at his request, explaining to Men’s Health: ‘It was a bit of an eye-opening moment for me and for him.
‘It’s really helpful when the people closest to you start going, ‘Are you sure?”

In January 2022, he decided to take a one-month break from alcohol and after struggling to keep to his goal decided to give up for good.
He told the publication: ‘Every Friday after work was a write-off: Let’s get drunk and have a good time. I didn’t have bad experiences, but I would drink enough so that I would ruin my next day.’
Of his sobriety efforts he said: I’m quite strong-willed. When I decide to do something, I’m really gonna do it.
‘I leaned on close ones a lot: family, friends, old colleagues, new colleagues, people that reached out that I didn’t know who also were sober.’
It comes after last month Tom revealed that he was spending Christmas with Zendaya and her family – but intends to unite both their loved ones for a joint festive bash next year.
Despite being away from his own family, including comedian dad Dominic, 57, and fellow actor brother Paddy, 20, Tom insisted he was looking forward to Christmas as the last time he was abroad over the festive period he was holed up inside a hotel room.
Speaking about his plans, Tom said: ‘I am gonna be in America this year, I’ll be with my girlfriend’s family, which will be fun. Where we’ll be is a secret.’

He recalled an incident when he drove to see his brother for a poker night and wasn’t going to drink but then half way through the night asked his sibling if he would take him home instead as he wanted to drink
He added: ‘The first time I spent Christmas away from home was in America, and unfortunately, not by choice…
‘I made two movies back-to-back through COVID. Did two press tours through COVID and did not get COVID once, the entire time. And after the Spider-Man 3 premiere was the last day of work I had, I was supposed to fly home the next day for Christmas, and I got COVID.
‘So, I spent like two weeks in essentially the guest bedroom and just was by myself. It was a pretty rough Christmas, to be fair. This year will be great. This will be great.’
And he hopes next year, given how his relationship with the Euphoria star is progressing, both their families will be spending it together.
He explained: ‘I think what we’d like to start doing is rather than like, spending it with each family each year is to bring the families together.
‘That’s what I think we want to do next time. This time, ’cause we’re both actors, we’re terrible at organising things. So it hasn’t happened yet. The thought’s there. The idea has been planted.’
Tom and Zendaya have become one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples since finding love on set in 2016 while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming.
When they’re not appearing at red carpet events and film premieres, they manage to keep a low profile and are often pictured walking their dog Noon together in London.
Indeed, Tom admits he enjoys cooking for Zendaya and has been preparing her meals while she shoots movie The Drama, which also stars Robert Pattinson, in Boston.
However, his culinary skills haven’t impressed, as he admits struggling to knock-up edible meals for vegetarian Zendaya.
Speaking to the Dish podcast, which is presented by former Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw and Michelin star chef Angela Hartnett, he said: ‘I’m starting to like, venture into a lot of vegetarian cooking.
‘My girlfriend’s vegetarian, so I’ve been in Boston these past few weeks and she’s been working so I’ve been doing a lot of the dinners. They haven’t been great.
‘There’s been a few like, let’s just order ins. But no, but I really enjoy it. I don’t find it stressful at all. I really like it. I need to have a tidy kitchen though.’
Tom revealed Zendaya’s specialty in the kitchen is an Italian dish favoured by celebrities.
He added: ‘I actually love Zendaya’s spicy vodka fusilli thingymajiggy that she does. And it is delicious. Yeah. It’s really good. The vodka doesn’t really do much though.’
Tom insisted dating a fellow actor has big plus points, especially when it comes to being able to stay with each other on location and communicate hidden messages with just one look.
In fact, Tom says being with Zendaya, who has also starred in The Greatest Showman and last year’s Challengers, is the ‘best thing that’s ever happened to me.’
He said: ‘Studios love it, one hotel room. Separate drivers. We’re not crazy now. Listen it’s work, alright?! Oh God, yeah. It’s a saving grace. Yeah, best thing that’s ever happened to me.
‘But it’s just that perfect thing when you’re on set and a director will give you a note that maybe you don’t agree with, or I know that she doesn’t particularly like, and it’s just that like familiar glance at each other of like, can’t wait to talk about that later.’
Despite launching non-alcoholic beer brand BERO this year, which was a project close to his heart following his sobriety journey, Tom admits starting another new business is not on his radar.
He said acting is still very much his future and he is ‘excited’ to start filming Christopher Nolan’s next film, which also stars Zendaya.
Tom said: ‘I don’t foresee myself becoming like an entrepreneur and like building companies.

‘This is so personal to me that it felt like it was something I should do. Like if I wanted to start, I don’t know, like a leisurewear brand, like no one needs another leisurewear brand. You know? Um, so, and, and with acting, like I love acting.
‘One of the beautiful aspects of it is that you can dip out. But I haven’t worked for three years.’
On his next project, he said: ‘It hasn’t started shooting. To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t know anything about it. I’m super excited. Um, everything is very very hush hush.
‘I met with him. It was awesome. He kind of loosely pitched what it was. And I’m sure when he’s ready, he’ll announce what it is. Yeah. It’s a film with Christopher Nolan.’
