Roy Keane pulled no punches when it came to rating Trent Alexander-Arnold’s first half performance for Liverpool as they welcomed Manchester United to Anfield
Roy Keane has slammed Trent Alexander-Arnold after he was given the run around by Manchester United.
The Red Devils had managed to keep Arne Slot’s side at bay when the half-time whistle sounded – and Keane pulled no punches on Sky when it came to Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpudlian had been skinned by Diogo Dalot for Ruben Amorim’s side best chance – which was squandered by Amad Diallo.
“Trent’s defending has been awful today,” Keane fumed at half-time. “We’re talking about him going to Real Madrid but he’ll be going to Tranmere Rovers after this performance.”
Tranmere responded on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Trent to Tranmere, Roy? Nah, we’re alright thanks.”
“Now he’s off to Madrid, I’m all in on this. Always said you couldn’t trust his defending,” one fan joked. While a second shared: “He deserves to be cooked with the shocking work rate he has. Madrid fans wont tolerate it for one bit!”
“Trent just let Roy Keane get his catchy headline. That’s worse than going to Madrid,” a third shared. And another added: “They could never make me hate Roy Keane!”
Alexander-Arnold’s contract is up at the end of the season – and he looks destined for a move to sunny Spain. According to the The Mirror, Liverpool have offered Alexander-Arnold a huge £78million five-year contract to try and keep the England defender out of the clutches of the Spanish giants.
But there’s a similar £300,000 a week deal on the Bernabeu table for the 26-year-old and, in addition, he could expect a huge signing on fee from the Spanish giants if he joins in the summer as a free agent.
As of January 1, Trent is free to open into negotiations with Los Blancos over a Bosman move in the summer.
