A bunch of aviation lovers who booked out the last ever Jet2 Boeing 757 commercial flight got off to a rocky start as their flight has been swept up in the travel chaos plaguing Britain this weekend.

The Jet2 Boeing 757 was destined to make its final flight after more than four decades service in the early hours of the morning, jetting off to Geneva from Manchester. Packed full of plane enthusiasts who wanted to take the last ever flight, the plane has been stuck at the gate unable to take off while the airport’s runways remain closed.

As Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester airports close their runways due to heavy snow, flights have been forced to circle above, divert, or face long delays in getting off the ground.

Aviation fans posted snaps of the flight to X, showing rugged up passengers embarking the plane sitting on a snow covered runway, saying that the plane had been delayed, expected to depart at 9am.

Speaking to the Daily Star this morning, one of the passengers, Dan, said he had been stuck on board the flight for around two hours, since 7am.

He said: “We are currently at the gate, sat on the plane. [We are] waiting on the plane getting de-iced before taxing out.”

Despite this, he said everyone was remaining chipper, adding: “The mood onboard is good, despite the delay. Everyone onboard is upbeat.”

Dan confirmed the flight was “just about sold out” due to it being peak ski season, and enthusiasts, such as himself, booking out window seats.

He said: “It’s sad the 757 is retiring, and the flight feels very nostalgic after 42 years of UK airlines using them, flying passengers around the world.”
