Baby Reindeer triumphs at 2025 Golden Globes as Jessica Gunning and Richard Gadd lead Brit winners

Netflix‘s Baby Reindeer led the British and Irish winners at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.

The show – which garnered critical acclaim for its portrayal of struggling comedian Donny Dunn (Richard Gadd) being stalked by Martha (Jessica Gunning), took home two trophies on the night, after its mammoth six Emmy wins.

Gunning took home Best Supporting Actress in a TV series for her portrayal of Martha – with the emotional star handed her award by Oscar-winner Kathy Bates, whose performance in Misery she channeled for the show.

Her co-star and show creator Gadd was up for Best TV Actor in a Limited Series, though he ultimately lost out to Irish The Penguin star Colin Farrell.

Gunning beat out Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Hannah Einbinder (Hacks), Dakota Fanning (Ripley), Allison Janney (The Diplomat) and Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country).

The show also won Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series beating Disclaimer, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, The Penguin, Ripley

and True Detective: Night Country

Gunning took to the stage and nearly tripped going up the stairs, as she joked, ‘I almost tripped up. You almost saw my golden globes there. Thank you very much.’

‘This is an absolute honor, honestly,’ she added, before telling a story from when she was a young girl.

‘This is a video of me when I was little, about eight years old, and my mom and dad got me a hamster for Christmas, and they brought it out and they said — in a bin bag, Happy Christmas. I have a very yorkshire accent. I can’t believe this is happening to me,’ she added.

‘I realized this morning that has been kind of the soundtrack for my life this last year since Baby Reindeer came out. I can’t believe any of this is happening to me,’ she said.

‘I want to say thank you for everyone to let me come on this journey. Thank you to Netflix, the incredible directors, are amazing cast and crew,’ she said.

She also went on to thank her agents Allice and Frankie, ‘and all my friends and family who I love more than anything.’

‘And of course thank you to Richard Gadd. Baby Reindeer has changed my life in ways I can’t even explain, so thank you for everything,’ she continued.

‘I can’t believe this is happening to me, and I know that 8-year-old me would be absolutely chuffed to bits. Thank you very much. Cheers,’ she concluded.

Farrell gave a shout out to Gadd for ‘breaking my heart’ with his turn in Baby Reindeer as he picked up his award for The Penguin – beating the Scotsman in the category

Farrell – seen in The Penguin- showed off a drastic transformation for the role

Gadd, who created, produced and starred in Baby Reindeer, was nominated alongside Kevin Kline (Disclaimer), Cooper Koch (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Ewan McGregor (A Gentleman in Moscow) and Andrew Scott (Ripley)

The series follows Donny as he meets the downtrodden Martha (Gunning), who begins stalking him in person and online

Picking up the award for Limited Series, an emotional Gadd said: ‘Thank you. Wow. This is insane, seeing all you people here. That’s mad. The Rock is there. This is crazy. I can’t believe it, honestly. I grew up on you, man. This is nuts. Honestly, the way you guys have embraced this show is unbelievable.

‘It means the absolute world to me, to us. We are so grateful to Netflix, by the way, for this story, give me the chance to tell this messed up kind of story. Thank you to our amazing cast. Thank you to our directors, Veronica, Josephine. Thank you to our producer, Matthew, and all the amazing people who worked on the show. A lot of people sometimes ask me why Baby Reindeer, a show this dark, has gone on to be to success it has.

‘I think in a lot of ways people were crying out for something that spoke to the kind of painful inconsistencies of being human. For a while now there has been this belief in television that stories that are too dark and complicated on sell and no one will watch them, so I hope that Baby Reindeer has done away with that theory, because right now, when the world is in the state it’s in, and people are really struggling, we need stories that speak to the complicated and difficult nature of our times.

‘Any story, when done right, is universal, and all the weird struggles we go through on a daily basis are just as worthy of being committed to screen as any. So streamers, when you are putting together the numbers and budgets for this year, remember to keep some back for the little person to tell their story. Thank you so much.’

Baby Reindeer was based on Gadd’s one-man autobiographical show, following Gadd’s character Donny Dunn, a London bartender and aspiring comedian.

The series follows Donny as he meets the downtrodden Martha (Gunning), who begins stalking him in person and online.

The show was critically acclaimed but not without controversy, when a woman named Fiona Muir-Harvey claimed to be the woman Gadd based Martha on.

She filed a $170 million lawsuit against Netflix, which a judge dismissed though allowed the defamation portion of the lawsuit to continue.
