Staff at McCooley’s Irish bar in Liverpool have released hilarious CCTV footage of countless punters making the same mistake – the clip uploaded on Instagram has since gone viral
Life comes at you fast. Or, if you are a boozed-up punter in Liverpool, a squeaky-clean door does.
The front door of the Irish bar McCooley’s has been wreaking havoc in the city. A video released on the bar’s Instagram page shows multiple people in CCTV footage walking straight into the closed glass door.
“Give the cleaner a pay rise,” one person commented on the post, which has since received over 1,600 likes. “I’m so surprised we’ve not done this,” one punter said to their friend.
In one short clip, an alert bouncer even tried to prevent one bloke from smacking his face on the glass, but to no avail. The fella promptly walked straight into it.
“McCooleys front door takes no prisoners,” staff wrote in the caption to the post.
There are two McCooley’s sites in Liverpool, but to the beady eye of this Daily Star reporter who has spent many a night in the famed bar as a student, the curious cases of the drunken window bumps took place in Concert Square.
Concert Square is the hub of Liverpool’s nightlife, with students, locals up for a night on the town and tourists all converging on the area.
Pleasingly, this might mean that the number of people who saw the embarrassing bumps could be quite high.
Elsewhere in the world of pubs this week, brave punters became trapped in a pub as dodgy weather engulfed the UK in a big freeze.
Despite dire weather warnings, the brave drinkers ventured to the Tan Hill Inn in North Yorkshire – which is 528 metres (1,732 ft) above sea level – on Saturday night. The pub, which also operates seven guest rooms, made global headlines in 2021 when 60 people got stuck in the pub after watching an Oasis tribute band.
Those who were locked in have played cards and board games to keep entertained, while a young boy performed improvised dance routines to the group he was travelling with.
Paul Wright, from Katherine in the Northern Territory of Australia, said he had never seen real snow before his holiday – with temperatures at home at around 30C.
The 52-year-old, who is travelling with his wife, his 22-year-old son, sister-in-law, four-year-old nephew, and two friends, said: “I think it’s hilarious, I love it.
“I’ve seen generated snow in snow fields in Australia, but nothing like this in regards to white-outs. Driving through Scotland and York, the amount of snow we’ve seen covering everything is unbelievable, we can’t believe how white everything is.
