Brazilian football icon Hulk has been slammed for ‘cruel betrayal’ after he married his ex-wife’s niece.
The 38-year-old tied the knot with Camila Angelo in a lavish ceremony on Friday in front of most of their friends and family. Hulk was previously married to his new wife’s aunt Iran Angelo for 12 years, with the couple having three children together.
However, they split in 2019, and it didn’t take long for the 49-time former Brazil international to find new love, announcing he was in a relationship with Camila shortly after, with the couple appearing to have three children together.
The two previously married in March 2020 so Camila could gain a visa to live in China when he played for Super League side Shanghai SIPG. But the couple made their ceremony one to remember.
According to reports in Brazil, they hired a luxury resort for the ceremony with over 500 workers, helpers and guests involved in the day. Hulk posted a number of stunning photos, showing off their lavish service in the huge church filled with roses and chandeliers.
“Before God and the promises of our love, we unite in one heart, beginning our eternity together, life! I love you,” Hulk captioned the upload.
Obviously, not everyone was celebrating the day, with Hulk’s former wife Iran hitting out at the Atletico Mineiro star and her niece. “Today is a hard day to swallow, a day that reveals how far betrayal can go when it comes from the people we least expect,” she ranted.
“If my mother were alive, I am sure she would not be able to bear such monstrosity. Seeing a granddaughter, who grew up under her roof, betray her own family in such a cruel way would be an impossible blow to overcome.
“Yes, exactly today, seven years ago, we were mourning the death of my mother. And today a macabre spectacle happened which made me understand that she really couldn’t be here, because she wouldn’t be able to resist such shame and monstrosity.
“This photo was even taken at Judas’ wedding. It is sad to realise that Judas is not only in ancient stories, sometimes he sleeps under the same roof, eats at the same table and, at the right moment, stabs himself in the back.
“Wanting what belongs to someone else, wanting to live the life of someone who trusted you, is a reflection of an empty heart, incapable of creating its own happiness.”
