Queen Mary of Denmark stuns in stylish gray robe as she hosts New Year reception for armed forces alongside King Frederik

Queen Mary of Denmark looked chic as she hosted a New Year’s for reception for officers from the armed forces alongside her husband King Frederik on Tuesday.

The event was held at at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, and followed two receptions held yesterday, including one for the Diplomatic Corps.

Mother-of-four Mary looked typically chic as she attended today’s event, donning a full-length grey gown.

The long sleeved frock featured a detailed floral-style pattern in a slightly darker shade of grey on the skirt, while the top of the dress was, in contrast, plain.

Handmade by luxury Danish designer Julie Fagerholt, Mary has worn the frock on a number of occasions, including the 2023 reception for the Diplomatic Corps.

Australian-born Mary, who has generally considered popular in Denmark – not least for her efforts in mastering the tricky language – wore a blue sash over her outfit.

Her chestnut tresses were pulled into a half-up, half-down do, showing off a pair of statement dangling diamond earrings.

The 52-year-old looked fresh-faced with a natural make-up look, boasting dewy skin, with very subtle smoky brown eye-shadow, and a pink lip.

Following Queen Margrethe’s abdication last year, this year marks the first time the King has hosted these New Year events as monarch

She completed the look with bold scarlet red nails, and a small grey clutch bag which matched the colour of her dress.

Her husband King Frederik, 56, looked equally dapper, wearing military dress uniform for the annual celebration.

He wore white gloves with his navy blue ensemble, and carried a cane.

Among the guests were officers from the Armed Forces and the Danish Emergency Management Agency.

Representatives from various major national organisations also attended, as well as King Frederik’s brother Prince Joachim.

The string of New Year engagements marks their first time King Frederik has hosted the events as monarch.

Last year, his mother Queen Margrethe, 84, announced her shock abdication in her New Year’s Eve address to the nation, marking the end of her era as Europe’s longest-serving monarch.

She hosted that year’s gala before her son succeeded her as the country’s monarch on January 14, 2024.

On January 1, Queen Mary of Denmark hosted the Royal Family‘s annual New Year’s dinner for the first time alongside her husband King Frederik.

They were joined by their dashing son Crown Prince Christian; the 19-year-old put on a handsome display in white tie as he made what is thought to be his first appearance at the event.

The guestlist also included Princess Benedikte, 80, and the Danish King’s brother Prince Joachim, who attended with his stunning wife Princess Marie at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.

Although it was now Mary and Frederik’s turn to host the New Year’s dinner, Margrethe was still on hand at the event, stepping out in a vibrant blue gown.

Holding onto a walking stick, the former monarch sported a glittering tiara and a statement fur coat as she arrived at the royal occasion.

It has been a busy few weeks for the Danish royal couple, who have hosted a number of festive events

The Danish Royal Household’s recent New Year appearances come after Queen Mary wished royal fans a ‘peaceful and Merry Christmas’ as she posed alongside her family for a festive portrait on Instagram.

The royal appeared to be in high spirits as she posed next to her husband, King Frederik and their four children, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

She opted for a chic winter ensemble, donning a cream turtleneck jumper and chose to wear her brunette tresses down in a wavy blow-dry.

Her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe, was also included in the heartwarming photograph.

The former monarch put her best fashion foot forward, donning a pink and grey tartan patterned jacket, olive green jumper and maxi skirt, along with a pair of black chunky loafers.
