Mohamed Salah would fail to recreate his Liverpool goalscoring exploits were he at Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou has suggested.
The Spurs boss believes Salah relies on his team-mates being in good form and admitted that his own side are struggling to provide service for their attackers.
His comments come ahead of their home clash against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night.
The showdown pitches the two highest scorers in the Premier League against each other, and Salah, the top scorer with 18 goals, will be hoping to run riot against an unpredictable defence.
‘Mo is a world-class player, but if you put him in our team at the moment I’m not sure he would have the same impact because of the situation we’re in as a group,’ said Postecoglou.
‘His attacking play, who do you need? You need a team that’s kind of in good form, creating opportunities, playing on the front foot, having a really solid foundation of a defence that is cohesive. None of these things exist at the moment.’

He then turned attentions to Son Heung-min, the Spurs captain who this week extended his contract until 2026 but has not matched his usual prolific heights this campaign.
‘I’d hazard to say that if you put Son Heung-min in Liverpool’s team, I reckon his goalscoring return would be decent. We’re a team that’s very disrupted, that’s not playing with the fluency it can do. And that has an effect,’ Postecoglou said.
‘It’s hard for our players at the moment, they’re trying awfully hard to be the best they can be.
‘But when we’re at our best, I still think you’ll see Sonny’s return, in terms of his ability to score goals and be really effective for us, I don’t think that’s diminished at all.’
