Luton Town are reportedly set to sack manager Rob Edwards, with the club fearing relegation to the third tier.

The 42-year-old has been under immense pressure this term as the Hatters have failed to adjust to life back in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League last term.

His departure from Kenilworth Road would be a sad end to a rollercoaster journey that began with the club gaining promotion to the top flight for the first in 31 years. Edwards’ side earned many plaudits for their performances in the Premier League but they ultimately fell short of their dream of survival.

According to talkSPORT, following their dismal start to the season, which now sees the side just two points above the drop zone, the club and Edwards have agreed to part ways.

Defeat by QPR on Monday night could prove to be the last straw, with a dejected Edwards even claiming that the ‘football gods’ are against his team.

‘Every week on the road we seem to be getting hit and hit and hit,’ he said after the 2-1 loss at Loftus Road.

Rob Edwards is reportedly set to be sacked as Luton Town boss after two years in charge of the club

The Hatters suffered their fifth defeat in six matches on Monday against QPR at Loftus Road

Defeat leaves the side just two points above the Championship drop zone and in danger of suffering back-to-back relegations

‘Things have gone against us recently. It just seems the footballing gods are against us.

‘The results are not good enough. The players are giving everything, but we are in a results business.’

Edwards has faced the anger of Hatters supporters during their most recent poor run, which included only one win in their last six matches.

Last week, the former Watford manager, who joined the Hornet’s rivals in 2022 after a short-lived spell at Vicarage Road, insisted that he would not walk away from the side he guided to the Premier League.

‘I’m not stepping away from this, I’m not walking away at all, it makes me want to turn things around,’ he told BBC Three Counties Radio. ‘As much as I want things for this football club, I have a family to provide for, I want to work.’
