Horrific Russian airstrike leaves not less than 13 useless and dozens extra injured with fireball blast leaving victims strewn throughout street in Ukrainian metropolis

A Russian guided bomb attack on Wednesday killed at least 13 people and injured 29 others in Ukraine’s southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, authorities said, adding that the number of victims could rise further.

The bodies of the dead and injured were strewn across a road and adjacent pavements next to damaged public transport.

High-rise apartment blocks, an industrial facility and other infrastructure were damaged in the attack, Ukraine’s prosecutor general office said on Telegram.

The debris hit a tram and a bus with passengers inside, it added.

Emergency workers were trying to resuscitate a man, while raging flames, smoke and burnt cars could be seen in the background.

Russian troops had used two guided bombs to hit a residential area, the regional governor Ivan Fedorov told reporters.

At least four of the injured were rushed to hospital in a serious condition, Fedorov said, adding that Thursday would be an official day of mourning.

‘There is nothing more cruel than launching aerial bombs on a city, knowing that ordinary civilians will suffer,’ Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on X, urging Ukraine’s Western allies to step up pressure on Russia.

Regional authorities reported further explosions after the first strike hit.

Russia regularly carries out air strikes on the Zaporizhzhia region, which its forces partially occupy, and its capital.

Moscow claims to have annexed the Ukrainian region along with four others including Crimea.

The strike comes hours after a Ukrainian Top Gun pilot set a new record in Ukraine’s history using a F-16 fighter pilot, after he shot down six Putin cruise missiles in a single combat mission.

The air assault happened as Russia unleashed almost 200 drones into the sky, as well as Kinzhals, ballistics, sea and land-based cruise missiles on December 13.

The unnamed pilot was under orders to knock down the cruise missiles and admitted the chances of hitting a missile, travelling over 400mph, were slim.

It also comes after Ukraine used British Storm Shadow missiles to eliminate two top Kremlin officers in a dramatic double strike across the Russian border on December 30.

The strike on a key Russian command post in the Kursk region by half a dozen Ukrainian-deployed precision Storm Shadow missiles ‘killed eight and wounded 22’ in a major blow to tyrant President Putin.

Chaotic footage showed the strike on Lgov targeting a building used by Russian serviceman, and today it was revealed that the lives of two colonels were lost to the blast.

Britain’s Storm Shadow missiles are capable of dodging air defences – making them a nightmare attack weapon for their enemy.

The £800,000 rockets use GPS technology to precisely blast targets, and can travel through the air at 600mph.
