Meghan Markle has shared a deeply emotional tribute to her rescue dog Guy, who has passed away after she adopted him in 2015.
Guy, a Beagle who was rescued from a kill shelter in Kentucky, remained by Meghan’s side throughout her whirlwind love story with Prince Harry and accompanied the Duchess to the UK in 2017.
However, it wasn’t an easy trip. The beagle, who was described as her ‘absolute world’, endured a ‘terrible accident’ shortly before they moved across the pond.
This meant that Guy underwent surgeries for several months, unable to leave the clinic and the Duchess of Sussex got the heartbreaking news from doctors that he would never walk again.
But then she encountered Dr Noel Fitzpatrick, the star of Channel 4‘s Supervet, who thought otherwise.
Meghan, who was described as ‘distraught’ and ‘very upset‘ about Guy’s condition, entrusted the vet with her precious pet and a bond was formed.
Guy was treated by Noel and his co-workers at Fitzpatrick Referrals, located in Eashing.
The Sussexes would drive by the clinic late at night, after hours, to see her dog as he recovered in the practice, located in Surrey.
The montage offered a sweet insight into the Sussexes’ home life with the sweet Beagle, Guy, over the years
The former working royal added that she will ‘always be grateful’ to the Supervet and his team, along with those at Queen West Animal Hospital in Toronto who also looked after Guy.
Noel, renowned for his bionic surgery techniques, has previously described Harry and Meghan as ‘wonderful people’ and was later invited to the couple’s wedding in May 2018.
‘It was an amazing honour to be there and quite surreal because I was sitting just behind Elton John. After the service, there was a big get-together,’ he told Event Magazine in 2020.
‘Prince Charles gave a few words and Elton played a bit on piano and it was all very nice. There were canapés.’
But Noel revealed he didn’t stay until the end, adding: ‘It was a magnificent occasion and also incredibly humbling. I was thinking: ‘What is a farmer’s son doing here? What am I doing here?’ It was a real case of imposter syndrome. I felt truly honoured, but anyway, I decided to leave.
‘I thought, I don’t actually know anybody. I’m really lucky to have seen this magical thing and I am very happy for Harry and Meghan, because they are wonderful people, but my shoes are killing me.’
Meghan adopted Guy in 2015 from a dog rescue centre in Canada. He was previously at a kill shelter in Kentucky and was only given a few days to live.
Admitting she has cried ‘too many tears to count,’ the mother-of-two thanked Guy for years of ‘unconditional love’.

In another clip Meghan and Lilibet are seen having a picnic with the pooches
‘I swooped him up….and fell in love,’ she said.
‘They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.’
Photos show Guy huddling up with Meghan in bed, enjoying cuddles with Harry and keeping the Duchess company as she tucks into making jam.
‘In Memory of Guy,’ she penned in the clip – urging followers to ‘adopt not shop’ – which includes a montage of photos and videos with the pooch set to melancholy music.
The sweet tribute offers a rare glimpse into the Sussexes’ home life, featuring sweet moments with the family pet.
‘We’re jamming, Guy,’ Meghan can be heard telling the pooch in one video as she is seen boiling raspberries on the stove while the curious Beagle joins her at her side.
In other shots, little Archie can be heard speaking to Guy. In one sweet clip, the five-year-old can be heard saying ‘he might fall’ as the dog joins him and his mother in the backseat, as Harry is behind the wheel.
‘He’s not gonna fall, don’t you worry, Mama has him,’ Meghan replies. ‘Thank you for being such a good boy!’
Harry can also be heard cheering ‘come on Guy!’ in a clip while he strolls down the beach. ‘Good job!’
The closing of the video features a sweet singalong from Meghan and her children – seemingly led by little Archie – which goes: ‘We love you Guy! And we’ll be true, when you’re not near us, we’re blue!’

Meghan Markle has revealed that her dog Guy has passed away in a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram
It is the third upload on her Instagram page after she last week launched her new Netflix series on her brand new Instagram account, called With Love, Meghan.
A sleepy but smiley Guy featured in the trailer for the highly anticipated show, dropping next week.
Meghan wrote: ‘If you followed me on instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him – and on The Tig too. He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.
‘Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.
‘I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.
‘Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.’
