The Metropolitan Police has handed a file of evidence about a Premier League footballer accused of multiple sex offences to the Crown Prosecution Service.
According to the Telegraph, detectives have asked prosecutors to consider potential charges against the man, who is at the centre of an investigation relating to alleged rapes of two women and a sexual offence relating to a third woman, between 2021 and 2023.
Police first arrested the player, who is in his 30s, at an address in London in July 2022 on suspicion of rape. While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two alleged incidents of rape, in April 2021 and June 2021.
He has since been interviewed by police on two further occasions while under caution. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has continued to play for his club since while earning a full salary. His club have never commented on his arrest.
Police arrested the man again in February 2023 on suspicion of a sexual offence, which is alleged to have taken place in London in February 2022.
No further action was taken regarding the alleged incident in June 2021, given relevant legislation had not yet come into effect at the time it is alleged to have happened.
A Met Police spokesperson told the Telegraph: “Met officers are investigating following a number of reports of alleged sexual offences between 2021 and 2023.
“A full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives continue to work with prosecutors. Those who have come forward to police continue to receive support from Met officers.”
