Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky shared an emotional embrace with his sister in the crowd after putting in an impressive performance on debut against Liverpool.

Kinsky joined the club from Slavia Prague in a deal worth £12.5million just three days ago as they continue to struggle with injuries in defensive areas, and he made his debut on Wednesday night.

First-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is out injured after undergoing ankle surgery, back-up Fraser Forster has struggled and been ill and Brandon Austin was making his debut in the defeat by Newcastle.

Kinsky’s arrival was therefore the first piece of business Spurs did in the transfer window, and he was thrown straight in by Ange Postecoglou and didn’t disappoint.

He made six saves in total, with the pick of the lot potentially from Darwin Nunez as he made himself big from the striker’s snapshot from inside the box, helping his side to a 1-0 win.

And at full time, the 21-year-old went over to a section of the home fans and embraced his sister, Andrea, with his father also in attendance.

The player himself told Sky Sports after the game: ‘I would say I am a big dreamer. But I have never dreamt this one, I am very happy for the whole club, I came three days ago, everything is so good, the people are so kind.

‘It was my sister. Yesterday I got to know there was a possibility I would be in the goal today, I called them immediately. My sister came, her boyfriend, my parents, I was so happy to have them here on such a special night.’

Postecoglou, meanwhile, said post-match: ‘We sensed that [he is confident] when I had my first chat to him before we signed him. That’s a big occasion for a young man, he handled himself outstandingly.

Jamie Redknapp said on Sky Sports’ coverage: ‘Really good, it was a big decision to throw him in. He looked calm and confident with his feet and made a couple of good saves.

‘He looks like he will be a good goalkeeper for the future. That’s the emotion of football.’

Michael Dawson added: ‘A very proud moment, he has only been in the building for three days and to go onto the big stage and get the opportunity at 21. Spurs have needed a goalkeeper, Fraser Forster as the number two has come in and missed the weekend with illness. It was a big night for him and he has excelled.

‘He went in there with confidence in his own ability and didn’t disappoint. Everything he did, closing the angle, he used class and confidence. He did everything in his own time.

Kinsky’s father, Antonin Snr, made nearly 400 appearances as a professional in the Czech and Russian leagues, while his grandfather also played.

The goalkeeper was embraced by his team-mates and manager on the pitch before heading over to his family, with everyone watching on beaming a huge smile.

‘As a kid growing up with his dad and a grandad as a keeper, they probably didn’t do a lot else,’ Redknapp said. ‘Catching oranges in the house, he was born into the game.

‘I liked how he was also when he walked off, he was high fiving everyone, he has clearly got a good way about him, he is clearly an incredible talent at 21 years of age. All in all, what a debut for him.

Izzy Christiansen added: ‘I think it is common knowledge they need to play now. He has clearly been recruited for a reason and has a huge amount of potential but confidence in his ability right now.

‘He probably had one of the best front threes in Europe pressing him and he just looked confident.’
