Fears of WW3 have been amplified by UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy who has spoken out on the fragile future of Europe’s security, even saying Donald Trump is right about one thing
Britain’s Foreign Secretary has done little to ease WW3 fears. In a speech on Thursday morning, David Lammy made an eerie declaration that security of Europe is now “on a knife edge”.
In response to Donald Trump claiming the continent must defend itself better with Russia “on the march”, Mr Lammy agreed.
Mr Lammy said: “We have to accept that there is no going back, we must stop the 1990s clouding our vision. The post-Cold War peace is well and truly over. This is a changed strategic environment. The number of conflicts higher than at any time since 1945, a spectre of famine from Gaza to Sudan and the most refugees and displaced people on record.”
The Foreign Secretary said that he is sometimes asked when “will things get back to normal,” and added: “My answer is that they will not. Europe’s future security is on a knife edge.”
David Lammy has said that president-elect Donald Trump is “simply right” to say that Europe needs to do more on defence.
In a speech on Thursday morning, Mr Lammy said: “Donald Trump and JD Vance are simply right when they say that Europe needs to do more to defend its own continent.
“It’s myopia to pretend otherwise with Russia on the march. So this Government will lay out a clear pathway to reaching 2.5% of our GDP on defence. A figure, lest we forget that the last Labour government met and was never met by the Tories since David Cameron’s cuts. And with John Healey, we will lead and we will change, to convince all of our Nato allies that rising defence spending is a strategic necessity.”
The speech was on Government plans for new sanctions which will target the finances of people smuggling networks as part of efforts to stop migrants crossing the English Channel, on January 9, 2025 in London, England.
Planned measures are intended to disrupt the flow of money and make it harder for ringleaders to profit from the deadly trade. It will be the world’s first standalone sanctions regime dedicated to targeting irregular migration and organised immigration crime.
