Hannah Drury has won the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw and is now the proud owner of a secluded sanctuary surrounded by nature . . . and celebrated with booze
A primary school teacher has hit the jackpot, winning a stunning £4million waterside property in the Lake District and £250,000, causing her to break her Dry January pledge in celebration. Hannah Drury, 42, is now the proud owner of a secluded sanctuary surrounded by nature, with Coniston Water, the third largest lake in the Lake District, right on her doorstep, thanks to the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw.
The breathtaking property, which was redeveloped and redesigned by Omaze, comes mortgage-free and with all legal fees covered. In addition to the house, Hannah has been handed a hefty £250,000 in cash to help her settle in.
She can choose to live in the house, rent it out for extra income or sell it to become a cash multi-millionaire. If she decides to keep the property, it’s estimated the £250,000 would cover the running costs for over 10 years.
If she opts to rent it out, local estate agents reckon the property could fetch a long-term rental value of £4,000 per month. Hannah, who purchased her winning entry for just £25 as part of an Omaze subscription she’d only recently signed up for in late December, has been a music teacher for two decades and currently teaches at a local primary school.
Music teacher Hannah, gobsmacked at winning a stonking £4million mansion in an Omaze draw, laughed that she’d been three days into her Dry January attempt when the good tidings rolled in – but that didn’t stop her popping the bubbly to celebrate. Husband Rupert, 49, also a music maestro and an operatic tenor, shared her joy.
Hannah said: “I got a random call on Friday night saying I’d won something from Omaze, at first I just assumed it was a friend winding us up, then when I didn’t recognise the voice I thought that maybe we’d scoop a little bit of cash or something. But all of a sudden, Omaze turned up to reveal I’d won a £4million mansion!
“I was speechless, and that never happens! My husband was flabbergasted as he didn’t even know I’d entered.”
On ditching Dry January she said: “I had planned to do Dry Jan this year, but that went out the window immediately! I lasted all of three days, but if you can’t have a drink when you’ve won a £4million house when can you.
“We opened a bottle we’d been saving for a special occasion, but it had actually gone off and tasted like vinegar! Luckily we had a backup so popped that instead. Our daughter came downstairs the morning after and said she’d dreamt someone had given us a big house, we told her that on this occasion her dream had come true.
“We’ve barely slept, we had butterflies all weekend. Keeping the news a secret from our friends has been tricky, especially when you have three very chatty children!”
Hannah’s breathtaking new pad features an upside-down design, with snug bedrooms and luxe bathrooms downstairs, while upstairs boasts expansive open-plan living all fitted with a bespoke kitchen and a massive lounge, perfect for entertaining their guests. The house isn’t shy of sunlight either. It’s kitted out with tons of glazing to let in the light and give them lush views over the lake, mountains, and the untamed beauty of Grizedale Forest.
This dreamy plot sits pretty with its own chunk of the lakeside – a whopping 200 metres, not to mention a private wood-panelled jetty. Plus, with six acres of untouched woodland complete with babbling brooks, outdoor buffs are sure to find their slice of paradise right here.
The stunning property not only boasts a spa house complete with a rainfall shower, Himalayan salt wall, therapy table, gym and a wooden in-ground hot tub on the terrace, but also features a separate summerhouse for Hannah to enjoy with her nearest and dearest. Just a stone’s throw away from the idyllic village of Coniston, nestled snugly between Coniston Water and the famed Old Man of Coniston mountain, this home is nothing short of a dream.
The next Omaze Million Pound House Draw offers a chance to snag a lush pad in Bath, with entries open now at omaze.co.uk. The Grand Prize Draw winds up on Sunday, January 26, 2025, for online entries and Tuesday, January 28, 2025, if you’re going old school with postal submissions.
