Tottenham’s FA Cup clash with Tamworth was delayed.
There was a pause ahead of kick-off on Sunday lunchtime after TV cameras picked up on the Tamworth net, that had appeared to have been tampered with. Ange Postecoglou was laughing as two Tamworth players sprung into action.
Tamworth winger Beck-Ray Besongbap Enoru got onto the shoulders of a team-mate and used some tape to fix the net, allowing the game to start. And a couple of minutes after fixing the net, Tamworth’s hero drew a save from Antonín Kinsky.
Besongbap Enoru forced his way into the Tottenham penalty area and unleashed a shot at the near post, which Kinsky could only bat away for a corner.
“We’ve been on a fantastic journey and it’s one we’re all proud of,” Tamworth boss Andy Peaks told the BBC ahead of kick-off. “And we’ve earned the right to be here.
“The club wasn’t in a great place three years ago but there are smiles back on faces in the town and I’m really proud of that, seeing all the press, TV and radio here.
“We all love football, you just have to enjoy it. And we’ve worked so hard to get here, even against Robbie Savage’s Macclesfield in the fourth qualifying round, against a full-time team. That was a real tough game.
“But we got through that, then the Huddersfield game live on the telly, Tom Tonks’ long throw and all that, and then the local derby at Burton.”
