BBC Breakfast in contemporary internet hosting shake-up as ANOTHER presenter disappears from screens with out rationalization – simply days after Sally Nugent’s absence

BBC Breakfast underwent a fresh hosting shake-up after another presenter failed to appear on our screens on Monday morning without an explanation.

It comes just days after Sally Nugent, 53 – who hosts the programme every Monday to Wednesday – was missing from the red sofa last week.

Sally is usually joined with Jon Kay at the start of the week, followed by Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt every Thursday to Saturday.

But Monday’s instalment of the BBC show saw Sally joined by someone totally different.

Instead of Jon, Roger Johnson, 56, stepped in for the journalist to host the show.

Jon has been a BBC Breakfast team member since 2012.

BBC Breakfast had ANOTHER host shake-up on Monday morning after Sally Nugent’s absence last week

Jon joined Sally on the morning news show on Monday morning

He regularly presents the show on a Sunday morning.

One viewer watching at home was left baffled when they saw him presenting on their screens.

They wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘#BBCBreakfast Damn! I thought it was Sunday for a minute.. What’s Roger Local doing on Breakfast this morning?’

The journalist joined the Beeb after attending university, working with radio channels such as BBC Radio Solent and BBC Radio Manchester and later decided he wanted to work in TV.

28 years ago he landed the role of sports journalist on BBC South’s South Today, then 14 years later he joined BBC’s North West Tonight.

He has also been the regular relief presenter on the BBC News Channel and reported on BBC’s Match of the Day and Final Score.

As well as Sundays, Jon also presents BBC Breakfast on Bank Holidays.

Jon has been nominated and won a number of awards over the years too such as the Broadcast Presenter Award, a BAFTA TV Award for news coverage and Best Presenter at the Royal Television Society NW Awards.

Roger presenters BBC Breakfast on Sundays – but today stood in for Jon Kay

The start of 2025 has seen a huge shake-up with BBC Breakfasts’ presenters.

Last Tuesday it was Sally who was missing from the show.

Her regular co-host Jon was joined by Nina Warhurst, 44, instead.

Nina joined the Beeb back in 2016 as the political editor at BBC North West, but two years later joined BBC Breakfast as a freelancer.

In 2020 she was given the role of business correspondent on BBC Breakfast.

Now the journalist is a regular step-in when the main presenters aren’t working.

Last week, there wasn’t one, but TWO occasions where the presenters went missing.

During Thursday’s instalment, Naga wasn’t joined by her usual co-star Charlie on set.

Nina stepped in again for the show and there was an awkward moment between her and Naga as they spoke about weatherwoman Carol Kirkwood.

Naga told Nina: ‘We’re already at the time where we stop saying Happy New Year apparently…’

Nina replied: ‘I know… I know. Christmas break is OVER.’

Then Naga made a cheeky confession, swiping: ‘I don’t think I’ve said it to Carol though…’

A shocked Nina asked: ‘Have you not?! Shame on you.’

Naga hit back: ‘I haven’t seen her!’

Nina didn’t look impressed and tutted, before replying: ‘Okay…’

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am and is available to stream on iPlayer.
