Several bonus payments are set to be issued in January to aid low-income households grappling with the cost of living pressures. Millions will benefit from support schemes, including the Warm Homes Discount which offers a one-time £150 reduction on energy bills over winter.

This scheme is aimed at those most concerned about heating costs during the chilly months.

Those eligible include individuals on the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit and other adults on low incomes with high energy costs.

For those who have already applied, the money is already landing in their bank accounts as part of a number of support schemes to help low-income households over winter.

These Government-funded discounts can be applied anytime between October and March, meaning some could receive it in January.

Another lifeline is the Household Support Fund, where struggling individuals can apply for cost of living payments, worth around £200 in some areas.

Residents can apply to their local council for cash and must demonstrate they are struggling to afford essentials like food, energy and water.

Applicants don’t have to be receiving benefits, reports Birmingham Live.

Additional funds may come via Cold Weather Payments.

These are worth £25 for every week of very cold weather and households in some places have already received £50 during the current cold snap which has brought sub-zero temperatures to Britain.

Cold Weather Payments are aimed at assisting the most vulnerable adults with their heating costs, including those on Pension Credit, Universal Support and Income Support. However, not everyone will receive these payments.

They are distributed locally based on temperatures recorded at weather stations. So far, areas that have received payments include parts of Lancashire, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Cumbria.
