TV star Hayley McQueen tracks down on-line trolls and holds them to account – even telling their bosses about them

Scots TV presenter Hayley McQueen has revealed how she has tracked down online trolls and reported them to their workplace.

The sports host said she identified the individuals behind abuse she received on social media platforms.

Appearing on her SkyBet ‘Not Just Football’ podcast, she discussed the impact social media has on her life.

Miss McQueen, 45, is a lead anchor on Sky Sports News and has previously described abuse she received presenting Scottish football.

Speaking about online trolls, she said: ‘I do like a bit of investigative journalism. I had real issues when I was working in Scottish football.

If I was covering a Celtic game it was like, “oh she’s a Rangers fan”, but I’m not.

‘I’ve had people wishing I was dead when I was pregnant. I’ve got on a flight, and they have said, “oh I hope the plane goes down”.

‘With one person I had found where they worked and I got in touch with their workplace and sent a letter and printed out the messages they posted on their Instagram account.

‘I don’t know what happened. I never got a reply. But the person’s account was gone. I had found them on LinkedIn and written to their boss. That made me feel better.’

McQueen’s ingenuity to track down internet trolls comes after Coleen Rooney – wife of former Manchester United star Wayne – earned the nickname Wagatha Christie when she turned sleuth to out fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy as the apparent leaker of stories about her.
