Standing at an impressive 76m high and spanning 178m in length, Zip World is opening Helix on the ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford
Thrillseekers are anticipating the re-opening of the world’s longest and tallest tunnel slide.
Helix is 76m high and and 178m long and is located on the iconic ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford. Daredevils will loop around 12 times, catching glimpses of the capital from new heights at a speed of up to 15mph.
Attraction company, Zip World have bought the slide which re-opens next month, after investing £2.6m. It is twisted around the 14.5m tall ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture famously designed by Sir Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond for the London 2012 Olympics.
The sculpture is made of 35,000 bolts and enough steel to construct 265 double-decker busses.
From a lookout deck 80m in the air is Arcelormittal Orbit 360 where visitors can enjoy incredible panoramic views of the city skyline, reaching as far as 20 miles on a clear day.
The Zip World website states: “We’re committed to offering unique, out-of-this-world adventures to our line-up, and Helix is just that.
“The world’s longest tunnel slide stands at 76m tall and spans 178m in length, offering a fun and quirky way to experience the ArcelorMittal Orbit.
“Feel the freedom and adrenaline of zooming along Helix, whilst soaking up the sights of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, home to the iconic London Stadium. Families with older kids, friends, groups, tours and beyond will enjoy the unique experience of flying the world’s biggest tunnel slide whilst appreciating the feat of engineering that is the ArcelorMittal Orbit.”
Zip World is an outdoor adventure activity company based in North Wales and is home to the world’s fastest zip line, first underground adventure golf set in a cave and the UK’s only mountain cart track.
The company invested £2.6m into the ArcelorMittal Orbit signalling its commitment to expand its adventure offerings across the UK.
Andrew Hudson, Zip World CEO, said: “We are delighted to announce the upcoming launch of Zip World London at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, coinciding with the 12th anniversary of the ArcelorMittal Orbit.
“This site marks our ninth location in the UK and our first in Southeast England, which is a huge milestone for Zip World and what we hope will kick off a whole new era of excitement and adventure right in the heart of London.”
The ArcelorMittal Orbit has been in operation for 12 years, attracting over 1.12 million visitors to date. It will be reopened by Zip World on February 14.
