A ‘fairy snag’ is a sausage sandwich made with bread slathered in butter and hundreds and thousands, inspired by the TV show Bluey – but many people have argued it should have stayed a cartoon

A fairy snag
Would you eat this ‘offensive’ dish?

A hit TV show loved by kids and adults has inspired a truly horrific snack that has left people disgusted.

A photo of a sausage sandwich made with a slice of fairy bread – a piece of white bread covered in butter and sprinkles – that featured in “Bulters”, an episode of the much-loved Australian cartoon Bluey, has gone viral evoking a wave of strong opinions. Someone recreated the revolting concoction, named “fairy snag”, and posted a pic of it to Reddit where it was widely caned for mixing a beloved BBQ staple with a kid’s party dish.

The photo showed the sausage lying in the middle of a colourful, sugar slathered piece of white bread with a strip of sauce on top. The man captioned the snap with: “Anyone else experienced this two-in-one?”

Many of the 700 comments slagged the snag off, calling it “offensive”, “against the rules” and “un-Australian”. One user questioned if the rank dish was legal.

In the Adult Bluey Fans Facebook group, the fairy snag drew an equally strong reaction.

“No. Just… No.Signed, an Aussie who loves her fairy bread, and loves a sausage sandwich,” one disgusted Australian said.

“A crime has been committed,” said another person, while another Australian commented that “this is NOT and Aussie thing”.

One brave Bluey fan stood up for the fairy snag, writing: “So after watching the new Minisode ‘Butlers’ I had to try it. A fairy bread sausage sandwich! It was actually pretty good.”

Another Aussie confessed she had made a fairy snag as a dare at a BBQ before the Bluey episode had aired.

She wrote: “Aussie here. Just messing around we dared a friend to try this at my daughter’s birthday bbq earlier this year and then half the adults ended up trying it and it did taste pretty good. This was in March so way before the butlers minisode was released.”
