Trent Alexander-Arnold’s proposed move to Real Madrid won’t happen this month, according to Spanish reports, with Los Blancos cooling their interest in the full-back
Real Madrid have ‘abandoned’ their pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The full-back, 26, is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer, and he has been widely tipped to leave Arne Slot’s side. Spanish giants Madrid emerged as the most likely destination, but recent reports suggest they have now pulled out of the deal.
Liverpool are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, despite Alexander-Arnold’s recent downturn in form.
The Liverpudlian was met with criticism from the Liverpool fans for his role in the Reds 2-2 draw bitter rivals Manchester United. However, he hit back with wondergoal against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.
“I could talk for hours about that goal,” said Slot on Alexander-Arnold’s 20-yard effort. “The biggest compliment Trent could get was the reaction of everyone [on Saturday] after the Manchester United game.
“Every player around the world, maybe except for a few, has a bad game and it is completely normal. But the moment Trent has one, everyone has an opinion on it.
“Maybe that is because of the contract situation. If that wasn’t there, I don’t know if people would have reacted in the same way.”
Alexander-Arnold is one of three star players who could walk away from Merseyside on a free transfer in the summer.
The full-back is out of contract alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
