Conor McGregor posed for a picture with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage on Sunday as the Irishman flew to Washington for the inauguration of Donald Trump
Conor McGregor has come under fire for sharing a snap with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
The MMA fighter jetted off to the US capital to witness Donald Trump’s second swearing-in as POTUS on Monday (January 20), eight years after his initial inauguration.
Taking to social media, McGregor expressed his honour stateside: “Honour to be in Washington, D.C., to support @realDonaldTrump the newly elected leader of the free world, and to stand with the 13 families who lost their loved ones at Abbey Gate.”
He was referencing the tragic 2021 event where an ISIS suicide bomber killed 13 American service members and more than 100 innocent Afghans at Abbey Gate outside Kabul Airport.
On X McGregor posted a photo with Farage, captioning it: “We are so back! @Nigel_Farage #MyBrother.” However, the snap has drawn some criticism online, reports the Mirror.
Social media users have been quick to lash out, with one commenting: “Well, tell your ‘brother’ to stop acting like a stereotypical politician and start acting like himself again.”
Another blasted: “You were an absolute joke. Now you’re worse. You seem to get worse and worse.” As another chimed in with equal contempt: “Just, when you thought Conor couldn’t go lower.”
Despite the controversy, McGregor took off to the States on Saturday, joined by his mentor John Kavanagh. Before jetting off privately, Kavanagh posted a snap with ‘The Notorious’, celebrating: “Will be a memorable birthday!
“Heading to the inauguration with the champchamp, thanks for the invite @thenotoriousmma we’ve had some memorable Jan18ths!”
Trump was imbued with confidence at the pre-inauguration event, boasting of building “built a new American majority that will lead our country to success for generations to come.”
He declared triumphantly to his followers: “Tomorrow, at noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline, and we begin a brand-new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity and pride.
“We not only won a mandate, but we built a new American majority that will lead our country to success for generations to come.”
