Donald Trump will ‘humiliate Zelenskyy earlier than shoving peace deal down his throat’

EXCLUSIVE: World renowned war expert Anthony Glees warned the Trump administration’s strategy to achieve peace in Ukraine has already started after Donald Trump Jr. called Zelenskyy a ‘weirdo’

Peace in Ukraine was one of Donald Trump’s key policies in his Presidential campaign that saw him beat all the odds and take the Oval Office for a second time yesterday. The bombastic politician has already rowed back on his promise to end the Russian war in Ukraine on the day he became the leader of the free world.

The 78-year-old kept himself busy though as he signed a flurry of executive orders – including declaring a national border emergency, leaving the World Health organisation, withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement and pardoning non-violent January 6 rioters – in front of raving fans at a rally after he was sworn in as the 47th President.

However, world renowned war expert Anthony Glees has suggested to the Daily Star that the Trump strategy to stop the war in Ukraine, which has been raging for nearly three years, is already underway. The emeritus Professor with the University of Buckingham said: “Trump originally said he’d make peace in Ukraine on his first day in office (January 20, 2025).

“He then finessed this a bit in October by saying he’d make peace ‘very quickly’ (adding that it would be harder than making peace over Gaza). Since October, senior figures around Trump have extended the time line for peace to ‘months, not days or weeks’ and Trump’s Russia-Ukraine envoy, Lt Gen Keith Kellogg, told Fox News the other day that there would be ‘a solution within 100 days’.

“Leaks suggest that what Trump will offer Putin, and shove down Zelensky’s throat is an agreement that the hostilities will be frozen when the agreement is accepted, that Putin will keep what he’s grabbed, that Ukraine will be prevented in perpetuity of joining NATO and that if European NATO members want it, they will be permitted to operate in a buffer zone between the two states, on the grounds that Putin will not dare fire on NATO forces.

Prof Glees added: “Trump needs to humiliate Zelensky, to soften him in order to get him to accept a deal that will ultimately destroy him and the country he loves.” The European affairs expert said the humiliation “has already started” with Donald Trump Jr. calling Zelenskyy a “weirdo” for suggesting he didn’t want to attend the inauguration after, Donny Jr claims, the Ukrainian leader “unofficially” asked for an invite three times.

“What b*llocks”, Prof Glees said. “Zelensky has a war to fight. Had he gone to Washington for a jolly, it would have played out badly in Ukraine.

“If this is used against him, as it is being, it shows he’s right not to go. Had it not been used against him, it would also show he was right not to go.

“Zelensky gives the world every impression that he wins, or loses, with the people he’s leading. He’s not a ‘weirdo’ for acting in this way, but a brave inspiration to all of us in Europe, especially to us here in the UK who know in a historical sense what it means to be with our backs to the wall, being threatened by a vile dictator. He’d sooner die on his feet than live on his knees.”

In terms of the peace deal, Prof Glees says it will only “advantage” Putin and Zelenskyy “will be a marked man for the rest of his life” He said: “People like me have been saying this ‘deal’ is sheer lunacy, advantaging only Putin.

“Ukraine in effect loses its sovereignty, Russia will continue to interfere in Ukraine’s internal affairs and Zelensky will be a marked man for the rest of his life – if he’s lucky. If Putin gets his clammy hands on him, he’s toast I’m afraid.

“Putin is a poker player, he thinks he’s seen Biden off, seen Zelensky off, seen NATO off and can see Trump off too. One by one, slice by slice. Remember all the stuff we’re told Putin holds on Trump. That will come out whenever it’s deal-time.”
