Lewis Hamilton’s first photo in a Ferrari race suit after leaving Mercedes has been posted on social media and fans are going crazy for it
Lewis Hamilton has driven fans wild as he shared his first photo wearing the iconic red Ferrari race suit on social media.
The 7x World Champion has spent the last two days fully embracing his Ferrari move. He had been at Mercedes for 11 seasons before the announcement was made that, after his twelfth year with the German manufacturer, Hamilton would be going to Italy.
The move came as a surprise to F1 fans with the incredibly successful relationship between Hamilton and Mercedes seemed unbreakable. However, the last couple of years were a treacherous time for the team and the Brit clearly wasn’t happy with how it ended.
Now, it seems Hamilton is fully focused on looking forward. Yesterday he posted photos on social media showing him visiting the Ferrari factory in Maranello. Today he posed for the camera for the first time in Ferrari attire.
He captioned the post: “FIRST TIME IN RED.” Hamilton’s fans have been all over the post with it garnering 2.3m likes in three hours. They’ve also been voicing their excitement in the comments.
One supporter wrote: “Finally finally the pic we have all been waiting for,” as another said: “Everyone this is not a drill.”
A third seemed confident for the move and stated: “It’s a good look. I think Ferrari can win driver and team championship sooner rather than a later,” whilst a fourth added: “Welcome to the world of red! It’s a game-changer.”
Even though the Ferrari move largely came as a surprise to the F1 community, Hamilton had hinted at the idea of driving the iconic red car in the future.
Back in 2015, Hamilton told MotorSport magazine that driving for Ferrari “would be a great way to end my F1 career, wouldn’t it? To win championships for McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari?”
