EXCLUSIVE: After confirming that a meeting took place last year between Mayor Sadiq Khan and WWE’s top brass regarding WrestleMania in the UK, an update has now been given after months of silence
The biggest wrestling event of the year could still take place in the UK – despite rumours of the next two years taking place elsewhere. Rumours began swirling yesterday that WWE’s WrestleMania event will take place in New Orleans in 2026.
And just hours later, it emerged that the 2027 event is looking like being held in Indiana, Indianapolis – although neither of these have been officially confirmed.
And just 24 hours after fans in the UK expressed their fury that WrestleMania in London appears to be further away than ever, Mayor Sadiq Khan has told the Daily Star that it could still happen.
In July last year, WrestleMania looked to be UK bound after a surprise meeting between the Mayor of London and WWE chief Triple H took place.
At the time, Khan said: “I am delighted to have met with WWE Hall of Famer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan today to discuss how we can work to make London WrestleMania’s first international destination.”
And although many pointed out that Canada had previously held the event, so the UK would be the second – the point about London hosting Mania was still valid.
Even Paul “Triple H” Levesque said that the excitement to bring the “show of shows” to the city was “palpable,” and it is something since teased by many UK stars.
But since then, nothing has happened – until now.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, a spokesperson for the Mayor of London said: “London has great pedigree in hosting the biggest international sporting events from around the globe.
“The Mayor remains determined to bring even more sports from around the world to London, including the first international WrestleMania hosted by the UK, and continues to discuss future opportunities.
“The Mayor wants to cement London’s reputation as the undisputed sporting capital of the world, as we work together to build a better London for everyone.”
As it stands, Brits might have to wait until at least 2028 for WrestleMania in the UK – with Wembley Stadium the most likely and obvious destination.
The venue was last used by WWE to host SummerSlam in 1993, although rivals All Elite Wrestling used it in 2023 and 2024 to host their major All In shows, before moving it to Texas this year.
