Vladimir Putin mouthpieces have reacted in anger to Donald Trump’s “end-the-war” ultimatum, with two braying for the Russian President to drop a nuclear bomb on London in an unhinged rant on live TV.

Vladimir Solovyov, a state TV propagandist veteran, and Andrey Gurulev, reservist general and pro-Kremlin MP, also suggested Putin should drop an atomic bomb test on the on Arctic archipelago of Novaya Zemlya as a warning to the West on the same programme. Another crony was adamant that Putin would win the war in Ukraine on the battlefield without Trump’s involvement.

The new US president had given Putin an ultimatum, telling the despot to expect financial ruin if he failed to stop the “ridiculous” war and engage in peace talks and end the loss of life.

Putin should expect “high levels of taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries”, should the war continue.

Putin’s cronies – who apparently expected Trump to side with Russia – were incensed by the threat, with Gurulev calling for the first nuclear bomb test in 35 years. Solvyov one upped him with his call for a London strike.

“Look at what [Donald] Trump is doing,” ranted Gurulev. “He appears not as president of the United States, but as the master of the world. Is he threatening us or what?

“What did he start with? With ultimatums. He should learn the history of World War II. So he can understand who won it [Soviet Union] and how many people died….

“Maybe our president should get an account on X, and respond to [Trump]. And the best answer would be to stage good nuclear explosions on Novaya Zemlya, frankly.”

Solovyov, who has been honoured by Putin for his propaganda broadcasts, said: “Don’t you have enough places to blow up? London, for example…..

“Why should Novaya Zemlya be tortured? Rather than London? [The British] will think it’s just fireworks.”

Gurulev, who had said London was “out of the question”, then appeared to agree with host Solovyov, telling viewers across 11 Russian time zones: “That’s just rude [the way Trump talks to us].”

Meanwhile, hardline Russian MPCol-Gen Andrei Kartapolov, told another propaganda show: “Neither in 100 days, nor in 180 days will [Donald] Trump solve and regulate the conflict in Ukraine.

“It will be done by the Russian army within the deadline set by its supreme commander-in-chief, our President Vladimir Putin. And whatever they say there, the decision will be on the battlefield.“Today that battlefield is ours.”

He added that “all these talks and negotiations” are not necessary for Russia, adding: “It is necessary first of all for Ukraine, which is losing on the battlefield.

“And this is recognised by everyone, including their European allies. And Trump understands this very well.”
