Ex-Premier League star John Fleck was rushed to hospital before Chesterfield’s clash with Doncaster.
Fleck, who turned out in England’s top flight for Sheffield United, now turn’s out for Chesterfield in League Two. He was was seen being stretchered off surrounded by emergency services staff around 30 minutes before kick-off.
The incident happened during the warm-ups on the pitch at the SMH Group Stadium. Chesterfield said that Fleck had been taken to hospital “as a precautionary measure”.
Their statement read: “We can confirm that John Fleck has been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after being taken ill during the pre-match warm-up.”
Fleck’s treatment would push the kick-off back from 7.45pm to 7.55pm and Michael Jacobs would replace him in the starting side. However, there was a second delay to the game after six minutes of action when a crowd member was taken ill.
The further delay took 12 minutes as the individual received medical attention.
Fleck joined the club from free agency in September of last year; he previously turned out for Blackburn Rovers – making just one league appearance in Lancashire.
The former Scotland international has played just four games for the club after nursing a shin injury for most of the season. He is best known for his six years at the Blades, where he graced the Premier League under Chris Wilder.
Fleck left Sheffield in 2024, boasting 256 league appearances for the side – finding the net 15 times from defence.
