An urgent warning has been issued by Lidl over a beloved snack triggering a “burning sensation”. The UK’s supermarket heavyweight has had to pull two Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzel products from circulation, following guidance from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

In a statement, the FSA alerted that the pretzels “may cause a burning sensation in the mouth when consumed”. This fiery reaction “potentially” leads to discomfort, rendering the pretzels “unsafe to the consumer”. The watchdog has now rolled out a list of batch codes for recall and is pressing anyone with these snacks stashed at home to return them to the store.

Lidl has swung into action, adding “point of sale” notices across its stores where it sells the four affected products, each tagged with one of two batch numbers. Other retailers stocking the pretzels are also issuing a warning.

Members of the public have been told to return the snacks

According to the FSA, these notices “explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.”, reports the Mirror.

The FSA’s bulletin covers the following munchies:.

  • Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels – Milk Chocolate
  • Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels – Dark Chocolate
  • Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels – Milk Chocolate
  • Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels – Dark Chocolate

Punters who’ve bagged any of the above treats are being nudged to return them to Lidl, the FSA insists, with a full refund on the cards for those affected.
