Donald Trump has reportedly left Super Bowl LIX early as the Kansas City Chiefs head for a shock defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL’s season-finale showpiece
Donald Trump has reportedly bailed on the Super Bowl early as the Kansas City Chiefs face a stunning defeat.
The US President, 78, who made history as the first sitting president to attend the NFL’s grand finale at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, seems to have thrown in the towel before the final whistle.
Before kick-off, Trump had tipped the Chiefs to beat the Philadelphia Eagles and clinch an unprecedented Super Bowl ‘three-peat’, but Patrick Mahomes’ poor perfromance has plunged the defending champions into a nightmare.
Nikki Schwab of the Daily Mail reported on X: “Trump has left the Super Bowl, per pooler @svdate. In fairness, Dr. Biden also left the @Phillies World Series early, during that no-hitter game against the @astros.”
Jill Biden, former President Joe Biden’s wife, was in attendance but also appears to have left early.
Despite the early exit, Trump’s presence at Super Bowl LIX was met with cheers when he first arrived. He saluted Jon Batiste’s rendition of the national anthem upon his arrival at the Superdome while the crowd roared for him.
Before the Super Bowl kicked off, Trump was spotted strolling along the sideline, drawing cheers from fans nearby. In a pre-game chat with FOX News, he sang praises for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany.
“I’ve watched this great quarterback, who’s got a phenomenal wife,” he said. “She is a Trump fan and a MAGA fan, I happen to love her, she’s a great person,” Trump added.
While many were chuffed to see the President at the game, not everyone shared the same sentiment, with some viewers branding it a waste of presidential time and taxpayer money.
Security was ramped up in the city for Trump’s visit, especially after last month’s terrorist incident on Bourbon Street. Despite the heightened security, the evening passed without incident, and Trump seemed to have slipped in and out of the Superdome pretty smoothly.
It’s possible an early departure was planned to avoid the post-game frenzy, with the president’s safety being the top priority, regardless of the excitement on the pitch.
