With fans calling Patrick Mahomes’ performance one of the worst, he legendary Brady, who won a record seven Super Bowl titles, was keen to offer his support to the Mahomes and the Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had nothing short of a nightmare Super Bowl performance against the Philidelphia Eagles, as his side slumped to a savage 22-40 defeat.
The Chiefs’ usual superstar had a torrid first two quarters, in part down to the The Eagles’ ruthless defence , who were able to apply relentless pressure without even needing to blitz, sacking Mahomes three times before the break.
The second half saw a statistical boost for Mahomes, but many fans felt like it was something of a hollow effort, accusing the Chiefs man of ‘stat-padding’ while the game was essentially all but over.
Before Kansas City’s final two drives, Mahomes was 12-of-22 for 148 yards, one touchdown, and two picks, sporting a woeful 52.8 passer rating. Then, once the game was all but over, he padded the numbers to make the box score look respectable. But let’s be real—this was never a contest.
“Mahomes did some serious stat padding after the Philly DC called off the dogs. Before that they had his head in a swivel.” joked one X user.
The whole disaster reignited the endless GOAT debate between Mahomes and the great Tom Brady, and the legendary Brady, who won a record seven Super Bowl titles, was keen to offer his support to the Mahomes and the Chiefs.
If there’s anyone who can bounce back from this it’s Patrick Mahomes [and] This organisation because of what it’s built on.” said Brady on FOX.
“I think more about my three Super Bowl losses than I do the seven wins. The reality of a loss in this game is that you just don’t ever get over them.”
But social media wasn’t really buying Brady’s sympathetic act. “Tom Brady pretending like he ain’t happy that Mahomes didn’t break his record is sending me!” one fan tweeted.
Another chimed in, “This fool Tom Brady happy as HELL right now pretending to feel bad for Mahomes.”
