Wayne Rooney has landed his first job after being sacked as Plymouth manager.

However, Rooney now look set to return to the footballing world as he was announced as part of Amazon Prime’s Champions League coverage for Manchester City’s play-off clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

A post on X from Amazon Prime’s Video Sport account read: “@WayneRooney joins #UCLonPrime! The England & Man Utd legend will make his Prime debut on Man City v Real Madrid, LIVE on Tuesday from 6.30pm!”

Very soon after his sacking, Rooney was tipped for a return to TV screens, according to The Sun. A source said: “Wayne is regarded as one of the best pundits in the business. He’s very, very knowledgeable about the game.

“And even though he’s actually quite a shy person, he really feels at home in a TV studio.

“It’s been a rubbish end to 2024 for Wayne, but he’s not going to be out of work for long. He’ll be offered punditry work straight away and there’s interest from Sky in a potential long-term deal to tie him down as a pundit.”
