Iceland are recruiting for a fried chicken taste tester, offering a £5,000 ‘salary’ and a year’s supply of chicken.

Not long after telling sacked Sainsbury’s staff to get in touch about job opportunities, the retail giant have now launched a nationwide search for their very own Chief Chicken Officer (CCO).

The lucky applicant will be given the chance to shape the future of the retail giant’s chicken range, alongside a range of perks that are anything but ‘poultry’. The supermarket are often at the forefront of new ideas, having recently launched prototype ‘heavy’ trolleys and baskets.

And with some people so mad for fried chicken that they’re willing to fight over a wing, we imagine the role will prove very popular.

The new CCO will embark on a behind-the-scenes tour of Iceland’s secret testing kitchen and be the first to sample and review the new chicken range – giving honest and expert feedback.

And if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, the CCO will receive £5,000 and a year’s supply of chicken. And it seems there will be plenty chomping at the bit for the coveted role as research reveal almost half of Brits would quit their current jobs to do the job.

A whopping 43% of workers would hand in their notice if they had the opportunity to take on the finger-lickin’ role, according to a survey by Iceland Foods. The research also revealed that Brits’ favourite meat is chicken (41%) with more than half (52%) chowing down on it more than three times a week.

A further one in ten admitted to getting their chicken hit up to six times a week. Blokes aged 16 to 24 came out on top as the biggest fans with a fifth branding chicken and chips their number one takeaway.

Paul Dhaliwal, Chief Commercial Officer at Iceland Foods, said: “We’re certainly not winging it at Iceland, we wouldn’t be surprised if we sell more chicken than KFC, so we’ve plucked up the courage to put our money where our mouth is and advertised this dream opportunity.

“There’s no fowl play here, just £5,000 and a year’s supply of our biggest and tastiest ever chicken range.”

Iceland say they are looking for a true chicken connoisseur for the role of CCO – someone who is ‘clucking’ mad for chicken, can distinguish a crispy coating from a soggy crumb, loves everything from a wing to a thigh and is bursting with creativity, energy, and humour.

Those interested in applying to become Iceland’s CCO must answer three simple questions online for Iceland’s expert judges to review:

1. What’s your ultimate chicken flavour combination – and why would it rule the roost?

2. If you could create your own Iceland chicken product, what would it be and how would you market it?

3. What’s the funniest or wildest or chicken-related story from your life?

As well as the unusual ‘job ad’, Iceland have revealed they will be taking over a Fulham chicken shop for one-day-only, on February 13th. This opportunity will give customers the chance to get their hands on their hottest new chicken products for free while stocks last, including their brand-new Chicken Tenders and chips.

Foodies are invited to sample the best of the brand’s chicken range at Iceland’s Chicken Shop from 12pm and can find it on 264 North End Road, Fulham, London, SW6 1NJ.

Those wishing to apply to become Iceland’s CCO can do so on Iceland’s website here, open from Monday 10th February 2025 and closing on 10th March 2025.
