Kensington Palace has issued a statement following reports that Princess Kate was ‘frustrated’ by an aspect of her charity work, claiming there were more ‘important issues’
Kensington Palace has finally spoken up after the media storm about Princess Kate’s outfits overshadowing her charity work.
Just earlier this month, The Times revealed that the Palace is hiding details on Kate’s wardrobe at royal appearances since the Princess says the real deal should be her advocacy, not her clothes. They said that Kate is annoyed when the news focuses on her get-up than her work. Since marrying Prince William in April 2011, Kensington Palace has been sharing details and brand names of Kate’s outfits at every event and appearance.
But sources revealed: “There is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the princess is wearing. She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting.”
It doesn’t stop there; they said: “There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that. But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
This news got royal fans annoyed, which led to a Kensington Palace spokesperson to release a statement, making it clear there’s no new rule, but rather they want to focus on the charities rather than her clothes, reports the Mirror.
The spokesperson clarified the recent fashion argument involving The Princess of Wales, stating: “Over the last week, I have received numerous questions about a story regarding The Princess of Wales’s clothing and how Kensington Palace shares information about her outfits. To clarify, the comments that appeared in the article were from me, not The Princess of Wales.”
They added: “The comments that were reported should not be directly attributed to The Princess of Wales.”
The statement went on to say: “To be clear, there has been no change in our approach to sharing information about Her Royal Highness’s clothing.”
This comes folloeing a 2022 revelation by a close pal of Kate to the Sunday Times: “When she goes to the Bond premiere or is at Trooping the Colour, of course she puts on the ‘uniform’ of the role. But what was enormously frustrating and difficult for her, especially in the early days, was she was going out and doing the work she was interested in and was hugely important to her, and people just talked about what she was wearing.”
Kate’s influence on fashion is undeniable, with her style choices often leading to instant sell-outs and her fashion impact reportedly valued at a whopping £1bn a year to the industry, as per Newsweek.
The Princess has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. Initially, Kate was known for her floral dresses that were fitted and flared, but she now has a new fashion formula, which has elevated her style credentials even further.
The mother-of-three’s go-to outfit now typically consists of a beautifully tailored trouser suit, a T-shirt or blouse and pointed court shoes. This is seen as the perfect choice for a modern-day Princess; polished and formal yet also relaxed and understated with the addition of a more casual top.
According to several experts, the change in Kate’s style sends a clear message. “I think it marks a new era in her royal life,” Bethan Holt, fashion director at the Daily Telegraph told PEOPLE magazine.
“It shows her confidence is growing and that she’s willing to take more risks and do something that might not have come naturally to her.”
Bethan continued: “She’s transforming before our eyes. She might not be able to say to us, ‘Look, my life is now completely different, me and my husband are one step closer to the biggest job of his life,’ but she is saying that through her fashion choices.”
