Most costly UK homes offered in 2024 as residence owned by man Trump pardoned sells for £30m

The most expensive homes sold in the UK have been revealed – from mansions to luxury penthouses, the priciest sits at a whopping £30million with one area in particular measuring above the others

A Kensington mansion once owned by a former Lord who received a pardon from Donald Trump was the most expensive house sold in England and Wales in 2024.

Number 14 Cottesmore Gardens sold for £30.0million in March last year. That’s more than any other house in the country in 2024 according to data from the Land Registry. It was once the home of Conrad Black, a former member of the House of Lords who used to own the Telegraph newspaper group, and in 2019 received a pardon from US President Donald Trump in regards to his 2007 conviction for fraud. London, as you might expect, dominates the list of most expensive sales.

A Belgravia apartment at 21 Chesham Place is next on the list, having sold for £28.0million in March. A detached Chelsea property at 20 The Vale was sold for £26.1million in June.

A flat in the new development at 60 Curzon Street in Mayfair sold for £24.0million in January last year, making it the fourth most expensive home of 2024. Two other apartments in the building also sold last year, one for £21.5million – making it the sixth most expensive in the country – and one for a comparatively more modest £2.7million.

A home called South Hall on Alresford Road in Preston Candover, Basingstoke, Hampshire, was the most expensive house sold outside of London. The property fetched just under £15.9million when it was sold in May.

A house called Hillside in Weybridge, Surrey sold for £11.1million. Turville Grange in Henley-On-Thames went for £11.0million, and Hurstbourne Manor in Andover was sold for £10.5million.

East of England

The East of England saw the second most expensive sale of a house outside of London.

Watford Road in Radlett, just outside of Watford has a number of large houses, some with swimming pools and some with tennis courts. Number 16 sold for £12.5million in January last year, making it the region’s most expensive sale of 2024.

Grove Manor in Maldon was the next most expensive sale of the year at £5.9million. That’s followed by 21 The Ridgeway in Potters Bar at £5.2million and The Lyches in Brentwood at £4.9million.

East top 10:

The exclusive Sandbanks district tops the list of the South West’s most expensive property sales.

Number 112 Panorama Road sold for the most – £9.3million. Just round the corner, 147 Banks Road with its garden that leads onto the beach sold for £8.8million.

A little off the Sandbanks peninsula is 1 The Drive which was sold for £6.7million.

North West

The most expensive home in the North of England was Cloud End on Whitebarn Road in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. The mansion, which boasts an indoor swimming pool, sauna and cinema, sold for £6.6million in May.

A house named Eshton on Withinlee Road in Macclesfield was the next most expensive in the region having sold for £5.6million.

Ambleside in the Lakes had the next largest sale in the region. A home called Skyfall with views to match its Bond movie namesake sold for £4.0million.

Nurton Hill Road outside Wolverhampton has a number of large mansion houses. Westbeech Manor sold for £5.4million in March making it the most expensive property sold in the West Midlands last year.

Ilmington Grange in Shipston-On-Stour sold for £4.5million, while The Manor House in Broadway sold for £4.4million.

Yorkshire

Crimple Head House in the countryside outside of the Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate tops the list for Yorkshire. The modern property sold for £3.6million.

Meanwhile, The Old Rectory in the village of Barwick in Elmet outside of Leeds sold for £3.2million. The Purey Cust in York sold for £2.7million, as did 7 Sandmoor Drive in Leeds.

A large detached house in the Newcastle suburb of Jesmond tops the list for the North East. Number 18 Granville Road sold for £2.0million last year. That puts it ahead of Picktree Manor in Washington and 62 Darras Road in Newcastle at £1.9million each.
