Everton have aimed a cheeky dig at their bitter rivals Liverpool as they welcomed them to Goodison Park for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park
Everton have been branded as ‘brutal’ after their cheeky matchday programme.
The Toffees welcomed Liverpool to Goodison Park after Storm Darragh but a stop to the original fixture late last year. Arne Slot’s side are now in a battle with Arsenal for the Premier League title – and they could land a massive blow with a win.
And Everton decided to print former midfielder – and current Gunners boss – Mikel Arteta on the cover of their programme celebrating for Everton.
“Small time as f*** this, from a small time club. Also, check out Moyes doing a Klopp and watching our warm-up,” one furious Liverpool posted on social media.
“Strange one that. Mad how many clubs actually like a small club and then moan when they’re perceived like a small club,” another added after taking the bait.
“That’s top s***housery can’t lie,” a third joked. And another added: “You know what I half have to rate how petty that is!”
Arteta turned out for Everton between 2005 and 2011, having initially joined on loan from his hometown Real Sociedad. He would move to Arsenal in 2011, before hanging up his boots at the Gunners in 2016.
The Arsenal boss played under David Moyes at Everton – and he’ll be hoping his old gaffer can do him a massive favour on Wednesday evening.
Slot’s side are six points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League and the Gunners will be desperately hoping that gap does not stretch to nine.
“I’m aware of the fact that David took over for four games and they’ve won three,” said Slot. “That is definitely a great accomplishment from him.
“They are definitely maybe now in a better place now than they were a few weeks or months ago. The weather circumstances are a bit better maybe as well!”
