A fan was spotted ‘performing voodoo’ on a doll with Patrick Mahomes’ jersey number on in the crowd at Super Bowl LIX as the Kansas City Chiefs star man had a nightmare in New Orleans
The reason why the Kansas City Chiefs lost the Super Bowl may have been revealed after a video from inside the stadium showed a fan performing ‘witchcraft’.
The viral video shows a woman in the crowd at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, dressed in Philadelphia Eagles green, with a voodoo doll of what appears to be Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes – in a white, No.15 jersey – that she jabs in the chest on numerous occasions while rocking back and forth.
The Chiefs, and Mahomes in particular, had a nightmare in New Orleans – which is considered one of the homes of American voodoo and is most prevalent in the South of the USA – on Sunday night as they were on the receiving end of one of the most one-sided Super Bowls in NFL history.
Philadelphia led 34-0 at one stage in the third quarter before ending the night as 40-22 winners, with the Chiefs stat-padding against reserve players once the Eagles already had the game won.
Mahomes struggled all night, throwing for two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean, as he finished with 21 completions out of his 32 pass attempts, including three touchdowns.
He ended the night with a QB rating of 11.4, the second-worst of his career so far. Fans online commented on how ‘creepy’ the woman in the crowd’s behaviour was.
And some believed her actions might have had an impact on Mahomes’ play. One said: “I noticed he looked pale and not well. I thought it was stress.”
Another said: “Whatever it takes, I guess!!!” One fan went even further and said: “That explains the Chiefs’ loss.”
So, did this mystical fan really have an impact on the biggest day in the American sporting calendar? Or was it the ever-impressive Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts who did the damage?
We’ll never truly know, but this bizarre moment has led to the woman in question being dubbed the “Super Bowl Witch”.
The next time the Chiefs lose, keep an eye out in the crowd, you never know who might be there.
