A recent study found two thirds of mums and dads turn to the screens to keep their kids entertained over the school holidays.

With parents scratching their heads over how to keep the little ones amused during time off school, it’s no surprise screens have become the go-to solution.

The study has shown that seven out of ten parents feel the pressure to fill school holidays with non-stop excitement and fun for their kids. At the same time, almost all parents consider it important for their family to experience new and unique experiences together.

Nearly four in ten would feel more confident in planning trips if they had better access to information on where to go or had better transport options.

Marc Pell, managing director of Tempcover, said: “You don’t have to jet off abroad or stick to the same old soft play centres, parks and coffee shops this half term,” encouraging families to check out local treasures for epic adventures.

To help give families a nudge in the right direction, Tempcover has cooked up a ‘micro adventure’ generator – type in your postcode and what sort of day out you’d like and the tool will suggest options for a perfect journey this half term.

Certain hotspots have a “Top Micro Adventure Location” badge, letting you know that fun times are pretty much guaranteed.

“Our Micro Adventures generator is designed to be a valuable resource, helping parents uncover fresh and exciting activities just a short drive from their doorstep” stated Marc Pell.

While 57% of parents do some planning for the school holidays, they also appreciate a bit of spontaneity. This makes the generator an ideal tool for those who prefer a ‘go with the flow’ approach.

Day trips were identified as the top method for creating meaningful memories, followed by beach visits and swimming or water park outings.

Marc Pell of Tempcover further commented: “The half term break is a fantastic chance for families to bond, which is why it’s crucial to make the most of it. A family road trip is the perfect escape from the daily grind and a way to create lifelong memories.

“You don’t even need to own a car with temporary car insurance you can borrow one for the day, or parents can take turns at the wheel to share the burden.

“That way, you can concentrate on what truly counts spending quality time together and making lasting memories.”
