A 350-mile wide snowstorm is set to batter the UK next week, with 39 cities in its path. The latest weather maps from WXCharts predict a sweep of snow across the country on February 27 and 28, accompanied by heavy rain, wind and low temperatures.
The storm will affect 28 English cities including Bath, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol and Cambridge. In addition, four Scottish cities and seven Welsh cities may experience snow. The Met Office’s long-range forecast for February 21 until March 3 predicts spells of rain across many parts of the UK, with the heaviest and most prolonged in the west and northwest.
Strong winds are also likely, particularly along coasts where gales or severe gales are possible. Between these weather systems, drier and more settled interludes are expected, bringing lighter winds and sunny spells, perhaps accompanied by a few showers.
This comes as the Met Office issues a yellow warning for snow and ice, lasting for a nine-hour period on Tuesday, reports the Express.
Scotland is bracing for a rare weather event as the Met Office issued a warning for snow and freezing rain. .
The Met Office said: “Snow flurries will probably turn heavier for a time during Tuesday morning, leading to a covering of snow in some places. Most likely in the 0-1cm range in lowland areas, whilst 1-5cm is possible in places above 200m.
“In addition, freezing rain, especially in the southern part of the region, is likely to cause icy surfaces in a few places and could make for difficult driving conditions, even on treated roads. Freezing rain and snow is expected to ease by Tuesday afternoon, with conditions improving.”
